My new (to me) seats

Both of my 94 Mark VIII's have grey interiors. I've always wished they had black interiors.

I bought some used 94 black seats last week.
They aren't perfect but they are much better than the old grey ones.

I put them in my green Mark. I think it looks great. The grey interior already has some black in it so I think the black seats fit in fine.

Both cars are high mileage (187 and 161 k miles) and the seats needed refreshing. The red Mark driver's seat frame broke a couple years ago and I've been using a black junkyard 93 seat until now. I was able to rebuild the original seat with parts from the green Mark's drivers seat.

It was a lot of work rebuilding the seats and cleaning and conditioning a lot of leather but I think it was worth it. Opinions welcome (good or bad)..:)

Looks good. :)

Black is one of the few colors you can do that with and not look out of place. A little bit of black accenting on trim pieces will help as well.

But I hate black interiors personally. Impossible to keep clean.

Thanks JP.

After a couple of days, I see what you mean about keeping black clean. It shows every bit of dust.

I learned a trick from Bart: He keeps one of those dust wands in his car. Time for me to buy one too.

>People do look at me kind of funny though when I'm dusting my dashboard at a stoplight...

I have that same thing in my car.:)

Looks good Bill.

I just use a Leo towel that I keep in the side door to dust everything off. Does the Swifter thingie work better than a towel?

I keep a microfiber dust towel in each door pocket and one in the glovebox. I reserve my towels from Leo for the Lincolns. :D

Thanks for the replies everyone.

JP, too bad you didn't get the Aquamarine interior in your truck..:)

One of my favorite things about the Mark VIII I first fell in love with - the aquamarine interior. I like it so much better than the other color choices that were available for the interior.

The only downside is the aged condition of my seats and the lack of suitable replacements or treatments. The only solution I can see(keeping the aquamarine interior) is to hire the services of a top notch upholsterer who could remove the seat skins and duplicate the fit and color of the leather. That would be pricey assuming it could even be done.

Meanwhile, I just accept it as it is and enjoy the ride. :)

RE: My new (to me) seats

I like the Aquamarine color too. I've always liked the colered leather interiors. Red, green, blue etc. The car companies don't offer much of a choice anymore.

The seats come apart pretty easily. Before I got the newer seats I was thinking about just taking the seat bottom in to have it redone. It comes off foam and all. I would think it would probably be cheaper that way.

Here's some photos of parts I didn't use. To get them apart, you just remove the switch panel (2 screws) and disconnect the plastic clips that hold the leather, then unplug the wires that go to the recliner motor. Then disconnect the lumbar airline and remove the 2 bolts that hold the seatback and recliner motor to the seatbottom. The seatback is held to the inboard side of the seatbottom by a "j" type hook. Just tilt the seatback away from the bottom and it's off. 5 minutes work.
