when i open my drivers side door is doesn't say door ajar on the message screen, but when i close the door the car lowers like it supposed to do, but no light comes on or anything, what the heck is going on do they have a sensor for everything in this upity azz t-bird

I too have a '97. When I first open the door, it does not say "Door Ajar" on the message center screen. Not until you insert the key and turn to the start position does it display that information. However, when you remove the key and open the door, the dome light lights and the message center notes that the security system is armed.

If yours is not doing that, you may have to spray your door switches(the latch itself) with WD40. Really soak it. Open and close doors a few time and if it still does work right, wait overnight to let the WD40 do its cleaning trick and try again. That should do the trick.
