Does anyone besides me have back pain? I can't explain how bad the pain is but on a scale of 1 to 10 it's about a 12. I've had back surgery twice and a saddle block 3 times.

My Doctor has me on pain meds but they don't seem to work anymore, I suppose because I've taken them for so long.

Does anyone know of anything that will releive the pain?

Please, Is there a Doctor in the house?

There are back pain specialists out there; you have to search for one in your area. Not good to live on pain meds. Need to find out what is causing the pain.

Steve,
I have been to so many Doctors and they all think they know what's wrong but they never resolve the problem. I think they just try to shut me up so they just give me pain meds.

I've tried paid management but that didn't work either.

Mine comes and goes. I swear it's related to the weather.

I try to avoid the pain meds as much as possible. I currently have no 'scripts and last one was Celebrex. :D

Mine does tend to come and go also but this current episode has been with me for 3 weeks.

OH the pain Dr.Smith from Lost in Space

I've had a bad L5 since I was rearended in my Mustang and the seat broke. I relieve the pain by biweekly chiropractor visits and core muscle workouts. I've been able to chainsaw, help people move, sit in a patrol car for 12 hours, and the pain is minescule. I'm against any type of meds except the occational Ibuprofen.

Have you gone to a chiropractor just to have them inspect your spine? A lot of them have free consoltations so you could find one you like. After learning about the spine and its conjunction with the central nervous system (which is the root of your pain), I am in FULL belief of getting regular adjustments. Even people without pain can greatly benefit from once a month adjustments. It's really like maintaining your car....let it go for too long and all of a sudden you slip a disk. I've had a bad back since 2001, didn't find out about it until I tweeked it in 2005, been an uphill battle and thousands of dollars since but atleast I'm in a position of maintanence vs. at home, bed ridden in pain.

I've never trusted chiropractor and with nothing to back that up rather than things I've heard. You guys have convinced me to try it. searching now.

I could keep going on about it but I was in the same boat as you. When I got in the accident, I was going to a chiro that was local. He was just a pop/pop see ya type of guy. I would tell him my lower back hurt and he would focus on my neck. Didn't even take xray's of my lower back, or any of my back for that matter.

This was after I tweeked it after setting something heavy down. The bottom picture is a straight on shot through my belly button. Should be up/down. Now I'm straight and my neck is back where it should be.

I'm sure you'll find out via research but pinched nerves in your back can actually cause kidney (and other major organs) failure, loss of feeling in your extremeties, migranes, even being unable to get pregnant. The nerves get pinched and they can stop sending the necessary signals to your organs, weakening them. No bueno. I even heard a success story about a lady that had a bunch of miscarraiges, was told by her doctor that she could not bear children and then ended up adopting a child. She went through a divorse, got remairried to someone who was a regular patient and so she started going. After six months, she got pregnant and had a healthy baby. Corny right....but if you think about it, it's kinda crazy.

See if you can find a Prescott style chiropractor.....very informative and won't do anything you are not comfortable with.

Yes, find a good one, do your home work, they can help in the right situations. But like Jay said it is not a one time thing.

I hope Norm find the right Dr and will be able to get pregnant :D

i have back pain all the time, i was in an accident about 16 years ago. a buddy of mine was haulin arse down a dirt road and hugged the bank too close in his s-10 and we flipped over. i was slammed head first into the roof of the truck and compressed my neck. i have damage in my neck but without being opened up the doctors told me they cannot see how bad it really is. i suffer from unbelieveable headaches at times, sometime they are so bad and come so fast i will vomit from them and my head feels like its being pryed in to halves. when i asked what could be done, they told me if they go in my neck it might end up worse, or just live with it. those were my options, so i chose to live with it. i dont take pain meds never have, i dont do drugs or drink, so when i feel the headache coming, i must get somewhere cool, dark and quiet to fall asleep and 9 times out of 10 when i wake up they are gone. now in the last few weeks though i have been having a steady low back pain, and it doesnt come and go, its been constant i feel like a cripple in the morning when i wake up for work, i have to pull myself out of bed with my arms i am not joking, i cant just get up like a normal person, its pathetic, i am only 34. oh well, this is the card i was dealt!!!

Nice post. I feel your pain.I get out bed the same as you. My pain is the worst when I have to lean over...you ever heard a grown man scream in agony.

I'm sure there are millions with worse pain than I have but I can only try to deal with my own.

I see where some take pains pills while others do not, I'm one that does. I couldn't get through the day without them. I'll worry about addiction when my back quits killing me with pain.

A few years back I was nearly incapacitated with pain in my lower back. I was on pain meds for a few weeks. One pill in particular was like a tranquilizer. I was instructed to use it sparingly and be sure I was where I wanted to be for 6-8 hours when I took it.

The MRI and x-rays showed obvious concerns but the doctors could not come to a consensus on whether an operation would be successful. I know too many people in my line of work who elected to have back surgery and it only seemed to go downhill from there. No thanks.

The episode eventually subsided and I recovered without addiction, thankfully. I've known others who became addicts with back pain. :(

I'm another fan of Chiropractors.

I've had back and neck problems on and off. I've gone for the 10 or so adjustments, a few times, and then stopped going because I felt fine then.

They also like to tell you why it hurts and how to keep it from coming back. A regular doctor won't tell you that.:D

i would love to go see one even just for one time, just to see if anything good would come out of it for me, i am sure that i could use some adjustment, but i dont want to continue to go, i'm just curious what one visit would do for me.

I've been seeing my current chiropractor off and on for probably 17 years now. Some insurance I've had covers it, some didn't. You have to first off find the right chiropractor, and one you feel comfortable with. Back when I first started having back pain (after giving birth), the doctors only wanted to medicate me, where good chiroprators wanted to strenthen my back and abdominal muscles with safe exercise and would give me adjustments which not only make me feel better and more flexible, but actually also help me breathe.

Mine actually never took x-rays. He can tell from where my muscles have tightened up as to where the problems are.

Good luck Norm, I'm rooting for you! (Oh, I took painkillers whenever I've needed them -- sorry, I just don't believe that pain is something we were born to live with.)
