Any tips for tranny filler o-ring?

Well, it looks like my tranny has a small leak from where the tranny filler tube goes into the tranny. I heard there is an o-ring there that needs to be replaced. 'Any tips on doing this on a '97? I'll look in the books, but wonder if anyone has any shortcuts?

If it's the same thing that happened to me, it's a 10-cent part and $150 labor. I had the dealer fix it two years ago as it seems to be a common problem when you go to synthic fluid.

I looked and looked and tightened everything I could reach underneathed but couldn't get at the thing without removing a lot of stuff. The more I try and work on my car, the more I let the "experts" do (LOL).

RE: Any tips for tranny filler o-ring?

we just let "the shop" do it when they changed tiff's Tranny filter.

Total labor was 150.00..

we did tranny filter, mercron V and the dip stick tube o-ring.
I dont think they actually charged us for the o-ring install... I believe they just "threw it in".

the tech said it wasn't that hard once the car was up on the lift.
I should have hung around and watched, but I feared an additional charge "for watching/helping" so we just left the car and went to lunch.

Geno,
"READ" the post bud... {lol}

They changed the transmission pan, filter and all the tranny fluid.
150.00 labor.. and I believe they just "threw in" the dipstick tube o-ring and didn't charge us for it.

most likely because like you said.. it took all of 4 minutes.

They worked on the car for almost two hours "between other cars".
I feel they did a honest job at a fair price.
and I didn't even get my hands or clothes dirty.
