Emission Test

My check engine idiot light is on and I need an emission test. On the emission pamphlet, it says not to bring the car with this light on. Last time, I undid the battery for about 5 minutes and it went off for about 10 minutes, but came back on during the emission test with the MVA guy in the car. Is there any way I can reset the light so it stays off for a few days?

RE: Emission Test

disconnect battery for 30 min but if its a real problem it will get back on in no time. suggest pulling the codes and checking whats wrong. If its your O2 sensor or EGR valve (common problems) chances are you're not going to pass that emissions test.

RE: Emission Test

You don't mention the year of your car, but many auto chains (autozone, for instance) will read codes for you and tell you what is wrong.

You'll want to get that fixed to ensure you can pass the test. O2s are a common failure, but there are many other reasons it might be on.

RE: Emission Test

Just pull out the light bulb if you want it off for a while, and i'll give you 5million dollars if it comes on again :)

RE: Emission Test

How easy is that? Is it just a matter of removing the kick panel and reaching up to unscrew it? (I hope that gets by the porn filters!)
