Wondering about the trim along the doors and part of rear quarter

Has anyone ever tried taking the trim strip off the doors and rear quarter? My chrome strip is bad on that trim piece and I was wondering how it is attached and what it would look like without it? Maybe I'll just paint that chrome strip the same color as the car. Any ideas?

the trim can be replaced. If you pull it off, there's an indentation in the door where it fits, so it would take quite a bit of bodywork to make it look good.

you could just pull the trim off and repaint it, then reattach it. Pull it away slowly and carefully and it should come right off. You might need some kind of solvent though.

Yea, that sounds like the best thing. I dont wanna do any reak body work, so repainting the whole thing the same color as the car would look alright I think. Like the Gen 2s. Thanks!

Theres also a post somewhere in here about a place that sells rolls of that chrome strip pretty cheap.

Yea, good links. I like the car better without the piece all together, but I have enough body work going on with my mustang. Looks like i'll settle with new chrome. Or maybe the black that was posted. Might look cool on a charcoal silver car. Hmmm. Decisions.

Here's an idea. I did this to my metallic silver 96. I bought a couple of rolls of 1" wide reflective silver tape and covered my strips with it. (Mine are corroded too.) The strips are anodized aluminum and can be polished and clearcoated, but they're a bitch to remove. I got the tape from Mcmaster- Carr industrial supply catalog, and it's also available in green,red,yellow, and blue. It's flexible and stretchable so press into place then trim with an exacto knife. Helps with that " I didn't see him, officer " excuse at night, too. Hehe

yea, that sounds like the route i'm going. i'll look in the mcmaster catalog tomorrow in my engineering class. thanks. never would have thought to look there.
