Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

RE: Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

Nice!

Only in America would people make models of old wrecks!

RE: Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

They actually look really neat. But who would think of makeing models of wrecks... why?

But I approve, they look pretty cool. :)

RE: Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

That's awesome! Do you have to put in the dings and damage yourself?

RE: Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

I'm assuming you start with an actual model of the car, the reason why I'm wondering is because if you fabricate your own, would it be possible to make a model of my old Mark that I crashed. I'd mount it in the garage as a little reminder. I wanted to take the smashed front grill as a little memento but the insurance company wouldn't let me.

Looks good. How long have you been building models? Do you have pictures of any more models or dioramas?

RE: Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

I've been building 1/24-1/25 scale cars/trucks/bikes since 1976.

I just got back into it a few months ago after a 10 plus year void.

In this forum there is a link to my 53' Twin Supercharged Studeabaker Im currently working on. Heres a few engine shots and the box art.

I scratch built this entire fuel system except for the pump.

I did the wires and the boots.

Heres a test fit into the body.

Im also in the middle of the Tom Daniel Monogram "S'Cool Bus twin engine top fuel School Bus from hell. Thats one of my favorite kits.

So far since Ive been back I built and AMT 1960 Ford Starliner, painted it genuine candy apple red and scratch built about 30% of the car to turn it into a straight axel 10-71 supercharged, Enderle fuel injected 60's Gasser! Thats wicked!!!

I also recently completed another Killer Tom Daniel Monogram kit called "Badman" 55' Chevy Gasser.

I try to do all my projects as close to real as possible. I always do the wiring, fuel systems, battery cables, brake lines, sandpaper the tires...etc.

Yes completely.
These kits were complete and perfect when I started with them.

You have to heat them up and literally construct the mayhem. Its fun.

Because its fun as hell. Heres a few more shots.

Heres the GTX from another angle. You can see the label on the dirty battery and all.

Here you can see the weeds growing inside the car as well as a driveshaft thrown into the back seat and a cast iron exhaust manifold laying on the rear deck. Also checkout the intake manifold laying on the trunk. I also added the 1970 SS Nova hood with damage.

Heres another shot of the El Camino, here you can see the bumper and muddy tire real well. Also you can see the Starliner Gasser in the back as well as the "Badman" 55 and another GTX Pro Streeter Im building from scratch.

Hers the interior.

Heres a good shot of the "Hit"

RE: Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

I could nit pick, and I will, but generally they look great.
Now the roll in the hood that should be a crease is’ and the “no holes” rally wheel in the bed are the give aways on the elCamino, and the GTX windshield top falling inward is too. Still I know what they are besides the nit picking and they do look good, I’ll be interested in seeing the overall view of the diorama when it’s ready.

I too spent a good number of years building 1/25 scale models although it’s been a while I was into my own brand of customization at the time, like and eldo drive in the rear of a 65ish elCamino or a stretched and chopped custom (76Ford) van, or a V16 big block Vette. Too bad very few of them survived the years. I now spend my model building time on HO model railroad now, mainly because once the diorama is done it’s animateable.

Bring it on, thats how you get better.

Plus Im still working on these as we speak, the whole project is far from done. Im going out tomorrow and getting balsa wood and Im going to fence in one half of the rectangular layout.

Im constantly touching these up and seeing areas that I missed with wash on several occasions.

Thanks for the input.

Above is some good shots of the Beware Of Dog, Entrance and Trespassing signs. I made these in Photoshop 7.0.

RE: Junkyard Diorama's *DU Warning*

that's pretty cool! I used to build wrecked tank and dead soldier dioramas,or airplanes going down in flames (to be hung from ceiling). but my favorite was taking multiple plane kits and building new original planes that never existed...

I wish, we're talking 22-25 years ago, did they have cameras back then?
