Anyone investagated the new Phaeton by Volkswagon ? With options, she is $89,000 - placing her above any Infiniti, Lexus, Cadillac, Lincoln, Audi A8, BMW 745iL, and even above all Mercedes, excepting the S-Class and SL Class. Car definately has it all together, and bells & whistles like rear massaging seats with 6-way power and TV/DVD touch scheens and V-12 engine and on and on and on. Really a nice car, but could you imagine calling your insurance agent, to put coverage on it, and he asks you the MSRLP (as they do) and you reply $89,000 - he's swear you were kidding...A VW? $89,000 ?!!!! I'd hate to see the depreciation curve on that car! Sorta like \

Who in the hell would spend 90k on a VW? Why is VW trying to create a more expensive car than their Audi division? Let's see, I could spend $70k on a new Audi A8L, or drop another $20k for a large, ugly, Passat.

Depreciation will definitely be steep, but the car does seem to have all the bells and whistles of similarly and higher priced MB, and AWD on top of that, and an upcoming W12 to boot.

I saw the same commercial and though they said the new VW "SATAN"!? LOL!:) Pricey? That's more than I paid for my house!:eek:

I know exactly WHO the VW is for. When we go down to see Matt at college, the professors there get 6 figures a year, and more on "Speaking Engagements" ~ yet "conservative" is their password. I cruise thru their parking lots. Camys. Impalas, Crown Vics, LeSabres, Dodge Intrepids, lots of VWs, Jettas & Passats and many 9.3 Saabs. They would never buy any "Luxury" brands, such as Cadillac, BMW, Lincoln, Mercedes. This then the perfect car for them. All the luxury the world has to offer, and it says VOLKSWAGON on it....what a prudent purchase.... Am I right, or what???

Biology Professor: Prudent Purchase, my neice has a Jetta and likes it. My neighbor bought the new Beetlw, too.

Walks off having NO clue Old Mackleberry dropped $89,000, and still likes him, not the least bit jealous of the guy :) )Only Georgiee knows!)

You should compare to the V-12 Mercedes (S600, CL600, SL600, CL65) Those run anywhere between $130K-$180K.

The V-12 BMW 760Li Also runs around around in the $120-$140 Range.

I don't think its a big deal that its made by VW. Audi is owned by VW chances are lots of parts are shared with the A8 with a couple of extras.
This is pretty much like saying Ford made the GT 40 for $150,000 the same company that made the Escort. That fact seems to be well accepted. I don't see any probs with VW making a car for 90k that will sell somewhere of 1000 or less units a year.

Exactly, VW also owns Bentley, Lamborghini, and a few others. It think Sandy is overreacting because it’s not a domestic car.

I wasn't thinking for me, personally, I was thinking about how many people would be willing to spending or committing to $89,000 for a VW! Usually when people spend alot of $$$ for something, they also want the status label, i.e. Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac, Lincoln, Audi, Volvo, Saab, Porsche, and others, to go along with it. They don't want Volkswagon! Ask around, ask people how much THEY think the MOST expensive VW is.....see how many would say $89,000 !

Now....For me.... I really like the car. I was not putting it down. If I could afford one, I'd be a very likely candidate. Remember, I come from a family of long blood lines of attachment to the Imperial, and we spent many an hour definding our purchase against Cadillacs & Lincolns back in the day. Even had the dumb insurance company issued ID cards that said: Chevrolet Impala instead of Chrysler Imperial. So, my point is....in a way, it was kinda fun driving/owning an underdog, and that is how I see this VW.

I really, really read up on it, and it's a fantastic car. Can hold its grille up high & proud with the rest of them.
Most people don't know that Bentley is now owned by VW, and due to the $300,00 price tag, don't concern themselves with the make. But, a VW ?? Can't wait to see a buyer enter a showroom, looking to spend $25,000 and walk up to tjhe window sticker of a Phaeton Premier, anc cut to the bottom line! Love to see their face!
It's got lts more goodies on it than my #1 fav; the Audi A8.
