Racing engine modifications.....

Material: Government Regulated Copper Beryllium
Use: If i told you i would have to kill you, however it dissipates heat 8-10 times faster than steel depending on composition. Oh yeah, and its also very toxic.

1 of 4 in the world made to our spec.
Thanks Arias

Stock vs Titanium H-beam Con Rods and Custom pistons... you choose

I dont have a picture yet of our crank, but its modified as well. Nothing like less rotational inertia.. i cant wait to drive this thing!!!

I would show you the engine block modifications i did for the dry sump but i cant let that info out. But trust me, its just as cool as the rest of this stuff, its code named "The Dan Sump" this year.

On another topic, here are our Titanium rotors, also made to our spec

RE: Racing engine modifications.....

How much money does your frickin' team have? Our FSAE team couldn't have afforded ANY of that.

Very cool though. Good luck! I may just have to head out to the Silberdome to see you guys race.

RE: Racing engine modifications.....

we have whatever money we can get donated. Alot of parts are donated, like the pistons.

We go out and contact as many sponsors as possible and that is how we do it.

Oh, and alot of stuff we make ourselves, like the oilpan you see there, the "secret" item pictured at the top, dry sump modifications, Throttle bodies, etc...

There are only a few people on our team that can do our high quality machine work but that is enough to keep costs down from sending out parts.

RE: Racing engine modifications.....

The copper beryllium is common place for high end valves seats. But what are you making out of it on the lathe??

RE: Racing engine modifications.....

its the start of the seats..

They are getting sent out to be finished. The guy doing it assures me he knows what he is doing.

Chris,
What is your opinion on the subject?

RE: Racing engine modifications.....

Honestly, with valves that big, how will they be able to fill the chambers? Shrouding is going to be a HUGE problem in that engine. Looks pretty, though. Let us know how it works out. AND SHOW MORE PICS!

RE: Racing engine modifications.....

the pictures may be decieving... its a 600cc Honda F4i motorcycle engine and that is only one of the 4 cylinders. the piston and connecting rod can fit in your hand. That made getting the compression ratio we wanted even harder. I am pretty sure we have the highest compression ratio ever seen on that engine and we can still get away with 100 octane.

RE: Racing engine modifications.....

Copper Berrylium seats are considered the best there is.Although there are different grades of it out there.
The benifit of them is they transfer heat better so they get the heat off of the valve itself and transfer it into the head and then into the cooling system.
They are not for the racer on a budget though.Usually about 20 bucks per seat, compared to about 2 bucks a seat.

The only problem I see with the domed pistons in the picture are whats going to happen to the flame front.I dont see a pic of the head itself but I dont see a huge problem with shrouding of the valves more how the extra material on top of the piston are going to block the flame from traveling across the piston top.
