RE: Final head count
RE: Final head count
This...is how the Nor-Cal gang gets together:
Today, May 28th, a year after we all met Chad, we decided to take another cruise, in his honor.
We met at Infineon race way in the morning. Initial 8 cars showed up, followed by Max a short while after.
Brenda and I arrived first, and a few minutes later, a Mark VIII came pulling up. I told Brenda "I dont know who that is...I wasnt expecting a...a....Oh man... That's a Diamond Anniversary!...Oh look, it's...Cecil!!!"
That's right folks...he never told us. We thought he was bringing his jag, since the last we had hear, he sold both of his gen 2's. Man, was I shocked. The car is stunning...first example I have seen in person, sitting still, waiting for my drool.
Many pics were taken(to be posted later), and we talked about all the things he planned to "restore" on the car.(someone had replaced many trim pieces, and added a custom grill, but the car is essentially "all there", so he'll have it back to stock in no time.
Anyway, the rest of the gang came cruising in about 20 minutes later, with the Birthday Boy showing up last.
We talked about the plan for the day, and headed out. Let me tell you folks, "cruising" is fun...it really is. Especially in the California Wine country...but on the Saturday leading up to Memorial day weekend, let me just say...traffic.
We stopped at Viansa, which is the panoramic photo I posted on the other thread about this cruise.(pics to follow, as well) Then we headed north, through Glen Ellen, where we stopped at a Bistro for a gourmet lunch. everyone liked the food, except the food critic
Northbound, again, to a beautiful winery for more group photos. Then over the mountain, into Napa valley. We stopped in St. Helena for a break, and count our blessings. Shortly after we stopped(10 minutes later) a whole band of Police cars, fire engines, and parametics went through town to tend to a horrific accident(fatality). I cant imagine had we not stopped, what "could have been".
We cut over to the Silverado Trail, and headed south through Rutherford, Yountville, Oakville, and into Downtown Napa. We parked, took several more pictures, and soid our goodbye's as this was a good parting point for all who came from different directions.
Brenda and I had a great time. All of the cars looked spectacular, and seeing all the wonderful people again was great. I'd call this one a total success. Traffic sort of sucked, but we found our way out of it, and turned a tragedy into a scenic drive down one of the most famous roads in the west. people spend thousands of dollars to visit the places we went...and yes... we were "noticed" by many.
If none of you have ever done a "group" cruise, I got to tell ya, if you get a chance to lead, it is an awesome sight in your rear-view mirror, as you round a corner, and catch a glimpse of 8 more Mark VIII's rolling in succesion. Awesome sight to behold!
