how about disabling the airbags by pulling the CBs

  • #2
From the FAQ on Lincoln's website (which closely matches information I've read elsewhere on this.)

Q: I’m concerned that my airbag isn’t safe. Should I disable my airbag?

A: No. NHTSA estimates that frontal air bags saved 2,400 lives in 2014 alone. According to NHTSA, it is far more likely that, if you are involved in a crash, your air bag will perform properly and protect you than it will rupture and cause harm. An airbag that is purposely disabled has a 100-percent chance of failing to provide any protection in a crash.

You can read the whole thing here, if you're interested.

I've known a few people who have had their Takata air bags replaced already, so they are working on it. Your best bet is to get your name on the list at the dealership, and get repaired as soon as their parts arrive.

Highest priority will be given to vehicles that reside within hot/humid climates. (coastal, mostly.) as these are the most susceptible to damage. High Humidity, and repeated hot/cold cycles, cause the solid propellant to break down and become granular over time, increasing its "potency"
