BOC on a bone stock 97 LSC

So after the Superchip that came with the car croaked (see drivetrain forum if you care), I find myself really missing the improved shifting and throttle response (probably the same thing here). While the drive train is perfect, runs smooth as silk, it does (feel like) it's short-shifting like crazy, and it's really slow to downshift (like 3/4 throttle required to get it to kick down) and really quick to upshift. I have no plans to do any performance mods to the car, so this is going to be a one shot for me. All that said, what's most cost effective way to get back to where I was performance-wise, and would I have to drive the car out to Indiana? Thanks,
