96 130amp alternator

RE: 96 130amp alternator

As far as I know, you may need to stretch out the wiring from the harness to the alternator, but that should be it. I also remember something about the rear case being slightly oversized which may require some slight filing or grinding at an interference point to the intake housing?

FWIW, I installed a new 160amp unit from PAPerformance designed for the 'stangs and it fit with no alteration.

What does our cars have on them now?(93s-95s)

OEM was 120 amp Mitsubishi units, supposedly "non-rebuildable"?

RE: 96 130amp alternator

yes it does. But is a very small amount. You will probably not notice a difference at the track since going from 120-130 is almoust nothing.

RE: 96 130amp alternator

Theoretically, HP depends solely upon the electrical load and RPM. But in the real world you may find marginal differences in HP requirements solely due to efficiency ratings. Probably not enough to worry about, especially on a stock vehicle.

Driller,

This 160amp you got, would it be the same for a 97 mark? if so do you mind if I ask how much and where I can go to order it.

RE: 96 130amp alternator

I thought it was a 160 amps. This is what I got...

I apologize for my confusion. Regardless, my rebuilt alternator only put out 20 amps at idle. Turning everything on max I recorded over 55 amps at idle with the new one.

There were no fitment issues. I did order a 4 gauge power wire kit with 200 amp fuse along with the alternator. I ran it along with the stock wiring and hooked up to the 12V power lug on the engine compartment fuse box.

RE: 96 130amp alternator

I emailed the company and they said the H.O. $199 alternator will not fit on a cobra or mark viii. Even though the picture is exactly the same for both, they told me to order the 4G.
