Changing Spark Plugs

Is there anything special I need to watch out for when changing
the plugs on my 93 mkviii? They seem like they are buried in the
engine, do I need any special tools?
I currently have 95,000 miles on my plugs and wires ,[170,000 total].

RE: Changing Spark Plugs

Just make sure you have at least a 7 inch extention for your wrench. Also torque the plugs to only 7-12 pound feet I believe, and don't forget to use anti-seize.

RE: Changing Spark Plugs

Something else to remember.

Dont do it on a hot or even warm engine.

There are very VERY few threads in the spark plug hole.

If you remove the spark plugs and the motor is still hot, there is a good chance the very few threads will distort or be damaged as they begin to cool down.

I had 1 hole where the threads just desintegrated when I was threading the plug in "by hand"..xo xo xo

After the fact I was informed to "never take the plugs out of a hot head".

RE: Changing Spark Plugs

Use dielectric grease on the plug wire boots or COP stalks.
