T-Bird T-Trim Project

I'm new here and don't own a Mark. Some of you may have seen some of my posts and wondered "who is this guy?" Some may even have said "who is this *****?"

I've got a '96 T-Bird that I spent last summer modding N/A. I got it into the mid 13's at 245rwhp and decided to go to the next level. I know it's only a little ole 2V, but someone may be interested....

The car has been with a builder in Atlanta since last November getting completely "overhauled"... The builder is Big Scott of W&S Motorsports.. The plan is an intercooled T-Trim with lots of goodies... The fully built Renegade longblock was dropped in the engine bay last week and the "accessories" are being bolted on. Here are the latest pix:

Like I said there are a lot of goodies, some of which will be invisible to the "naked eye." Here is the fitting for the rear cylinder cooling modification:

Here is the exterior:

And here she is N/A kicking some Chebbie butt at SSHS 3 last year in Atlanta:

I'm not sure it'll help anybody here, but I will be happy to share the details of the plan. I've got lots of pix of the components.

Great job. Looks awsome. I like the clean sleeper look to your car as well.
If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Nice car man, engine looks great!
you managed to pull a 13.71 with only 245 rwhp?? A guy i know runs mid 14s on this mark with 250rwhp, the weight difference can't be that big. What are your 60ft times? Did you do a manual swap?

My 60's were 1.9's. I was running Hoosier QT Pros.

My drivetrain setup was a 3200 stall PI TC, Cobra 3.73 pumpkin, a stock rebuilt '94 4r70w (supposed to be a J-spec Bulletproof, but oh well -- thank you Mr. Reinhart).

The day I pulled the 13.71, my TC was not locking up in 2nd or 3rd, so I lost a couple of tenths there. The car essentially coasted from the 1,000 ft mark...

I was also running on an old SCT dyno tune that was done before I added the Compcams... The 245 was what Jerry got a week after the run, so I was probably less than 245 that day. Jerry also got the TC to lock up, but I never drove the car again to get times. I had left it in ATL for the tune, and ended up having Scott start the build.

When the old engine was torn down, the builder found a fried thrust bearing and destroyed oil pump, so I obviously had some TC/trans issues ... The car was a runner, and the set up worked real good considering the issues.

With a proper tune, locking TC, and the trans I was supposed to have, I shoulda been 13.4's or better.

What stall TC is your buddy running? What kind of tires? What rear? Has he beefed up (J-modded) the trans?

That is a runner. My best thus far is 13.9 with 250 rwhp, on 1.9 60' times. Did you do any weight reduction?

Yup: Zone, Atkins, South Beach, Water, Grapefruit... I've tried them all with no success....

But seriously,

Yeah, that day I had pulled the seats and JL subwoofer out. The front seat is maybe 35 pounds (non power) and the rear seat and back are maybe 10 pounds.. the JL sub is about 25 I'd say. The JL 5 channel amp was in. I was probably about 1/3 of a tank of gas. The slicks on stock rims are pretty light, but the ronal two piece 17 x 8's with 245/45's are pretty heavy to spin. I also have 13" rotors up front with Cobra 2 piston calipers which are a bit heavier than the stock brakes.

With me in the car, I was right around 3800# give or take a bit...

The guy i was talking about is 46callaway on this board. Stock 3.23 out back, stock tranny.
Nice times !!!

RE: T-Bird T-Trim Project

Mike's TBird weighs a touch more than mine-I'm at 3760lbs.
My car went 12.98@103.16 with only 254 rwhp. The 60' on that run was a 1.74.
It can be done, but you need torque to jump off of the line, and then the HP to carry you through the traps.

What tire/rim combination are you running? [/div]

In the front I've got 245/45's on 17" x 8" rims .. The rears are 275/40's on 17" x 9" rims.

We're getting closer all the time. The 60# injectors are installed, the fuel lines are fabbed and hooked up to the rails and regulator:

Since we decided to delete the EGR, Scott fabbed up a plate to block the EGR and mount the FPR, killing two birds with one stone:

The intake is torqued down, and the blower mounted:

We're getting there.. slow and steady...
