Magnaflow Muffler Question?

I am going to replace my stocks with aftermarket. My local shop has quoted me $180 to replace my stock with two Magnaflows and keep my same OEM tips.....I need help with my selection of the Magnaflow mufflers.

Do I want to pay the extra for Stainless or is the welded going to work just fine? Also, I noticed that they come in the 4 x 9 ovals with two different sizes 14" or 18" long.....which do I want??
Also, are there any performance diff. between the SS vs. welded???

Any help would be great!!

Thanks, Joe

RE: Magnaflow Mufflers (Love Them)

I decided on the Magnaflows! I got a local shop to put them on friday. Part Number : 14335 (14" Stainless Steel Mufflers) It cost me $230 out the door with a lifetime warranty!! He added extra pipe after the mufflers and attached it to my factory 97 tips! I did have him move the tips out past the bumper cutouts about 1" and it looks sooooo much better! Now you can see a little bit of the Stainless sparkling from underneath the car and it matches the chrome octastars nicely!

I plan to do the "X" Pipe and maybe high flow cats soon.....any thoughts??

How do they sound?

Whaddayaknow. I have a second gen with Octastars and stainless steel magnaflows, with the stock tips welded back on. Nice choice. But I have gutted cats and 2.5" duals all the way back with two x-pipes.

IMO they sound great! To me it sounds like a stock Mustang GT or a stock Z-28 (Just a nice rumble...no droan yet) It's like all the guy's on this board have said for years.....you just have to read all the post you can about it and then decide what you think is the sound that you are looking for. BTW, I do think that cutting out the 3rd Cat/Res. and welding in the "X" Pipe will give it just that xtra little bit that it needs!

For me it was money well spent.....my drivers side muffler had a hole in it and was leaking so the decision to buy new was not too hard!

My wife even liked them!! :)

joe or dave...perhaps you could post a pic of the stainless mufflers with the stock tips...i'm looking into having the same thing done and i'd like to see what they look like. i'm not sure whether i'll go with magnaflows or dynomax ultras, but i definately want to keep the stock tips with stainless. thanks.

I have some more shots at home, if i remember i'll put up one or two later. My mufflers sit a bit lower and a bit further back than Joe's. The piece between my mufflers and my tips is like 3" long and straight. My tips stick out just a bit, like Joe's.

RE: Magnaflow Mufflers (Love Them)

So do you have center inlet and center outlet mufflers? You said the piece between your muffler and tips was straight. Joes seem to have an offset outlet. And if so do you remember the part number for the center inlet/outlet mufflers? Your cars look great guys. I really like the look with the stock tips.

thanks for the photos guys...i got a price today of $120 each for the magnaflows installed with the stock tips. so i'm pretty sure i'll be doing this in the next couple of weeks. as far as cleaning the tips, i use brasso and they sparkle.

btw...nice sig pic joe...i like the side angle...i might have to update mine...:D

Hay Joe, I have to ask, is that a License plate frame or is that the way the plates look in Alabama?

RE: Magnaflow Mufflers (Love Them)

No, it looks good. "Stars Fell On Alabama" is a Jimmy Buffett. I am a huge fan and thought maybe it was a plate frame and you were a Parrot Head also.
