It looks like Ford/Lincoln/Mercury OEM wheels are the only OEM wheels that will be direct bolt-ons...

What does the offset measure or mean?

RE: The most informative wheel chart I've seen!

Hey Sharon! (I owe you an email, don't I? ;))

The offset is how far the wheel hub mating surface is from the centerline (imaginary line drawn through the center) of the wheel. For example, a "zero" offset on an 8" wide wheel would mean that the wheel mating surface is exactly 4" from the outside edge of the wheel, and exactly 4" from the inside edge of the wheel. Positive offset (+) puts more of the wheel under the car, and negative offset (-) makes the wheels stick out.

Since our mark wheels are +39, I'm thinking we shouldn't really go more than +45 offset. It looks pretty close in there as it is.

There is a good chart of this on that link I posted above, too.

In that chart, the larger the offset number the more the wheels go under the car. Too far, and they'll start rubbing suspension parts in front. But to me, the main reason to use correct offset is because it's also designed to center the wheel load over the centerline of the wheel bearings. Once you move offset either way, you start putting side load on the wheel bearings, resulting in greater bearing wear.

The other thing in that chart to notice is the hub size. You'll need to get hub-centric rings to center the wheels on the hubs for those that aren't correct. If you don't, the wheels would be centered by the lugs, and the weight would also be supported by the lugs, not the hubs. 'Really bad...

Thanks guys! I'm sticking with stock, but it's always nice to learn something new. :)
