Steering wheel pod for a boost gauge

Started on the holder for the boostgauge. I wanted it on the rightside cause it only blocks 80MPH and up. The one autometer makes is on the left side for Mustangs. Which i might have to buy anyways and cut and refab it if this method fails. Heres some starter pics. That fiberglass one on the left is a fail. I made it quick to get a general idea of size and form. Im trying to make it as small and unobtrusive as possible to not clutter dash and maybee look factory. I guess well see.

Nope

Nope

The last remaining links to the puzzle are on their way. Custom MAF tube, blow through meter, and the pigtail harness and my switch chip is on its way to Lonnie at Blue Oval Chips. I can't wait lols. Car has been down for like a year so far. I gotta hurry up with this boost gauge holder. still doing battle with getting employed again also, last possible hire got shut down after the guy said youre hired and well be sending you a package in the mail for the offer letter. Go figure, after they spent like 5000.00 flying me all over the damn country meeting with different people for the ok. So that puts a monkey wrench into projects like this when youre hoarding money and not spending.

is that plaster?

What was wrong with the glass one?

Have you though about making a mold then making a full glass piece for the top of the column

yes

yes

Nothings wrong with the glass one, its just wrong size (but the cardboard model permenately glued to its inside is a perfect fit) and the back side curve is wrong to my liking.
The white stuff is kids modeling clay bought at hobby store that kids make jewlery and stuff out of. It hardens at 115 degrees in home oven as opposed to the real potters clay that hardens at above 1000 degrees in a kiln.
I am using it to make a mold of the bottom (actually the top countours of the top piece) and then i will make a top piece of the gauge holder and fiberglass them together to make one piece mold for the top console piece that has extra protrusion for the gauge and hides the backside. It should look alot like the glass one, but will be attached to the top part as one unit. Then ill sand it down, add bondo, and put the factory design back onto bondo while wet, then spray it cream color again and install it.

I have the sudden urge to go make something out of glass now. TO bad my arms break out just thinking about it now. What are you going to use for the texture?

A latex rubber sheet from off of the dash. That same texture just rolled onto or pressed into the wet bondo with a roller or pad cutout. take the latex sheet you made, cut with razor blade, and spray adhesive it onto a plastic roller and viola, instant texture maker, roll wherever you want it to be. :)

This is what i was after. The curvy part on the bottom of the holder that affixes to the top of the steering wheel neck shroud. Now i can go on with the building with the base all set.

Yay playdough!!!

Thats not playdough, thats Military grade Semtex. I mean ear ahh clay.
Real C-5 is white too but looks more waxy. Ive seen it, but never got to play with it, which is probably a good thing. haha

Heres some more

Heres some more

After slicing off excess fiberglass and drips then grinding and filliling a little with bondo to get shape. Still a long way to go yet, but the general shape is there and the foundation is solid mounted to hold the gauge with no vibration or rattles.
