First Time Out

DLF

Registered
Today @ Raceway Park, Englishtown, NJ

74 degrees, 1,600' DA, 20 MPH headwinds

3,980 lbs. race weight

Not sure was I was expecting, but this wasn't it :(

Performance mods are:

Kooks Headers and Custom 2 1/2" Stainless Dual Exhaust with Metallic Cats.
BOC 3,600 Stall Stage I 10" Converter
4" DynoTech Driveshaft
Tru-Trac Diff
4.10's
MT 275/40-17 DR's
SCT Pro-Racer (self tuned)

Stock intake, tube, and airbox with a K&N panel filter.

Best pass of 4:

60' - 2.018
1/8 - 9.251 @ 75.85
1/4 - 14.425 @ 94.65

Tried launching from off-idle to 2,000 RPM's, off-idle seemed to work best.

Car felt extemely soft coming off the line, and the 60' time reflects that.

Nosed over past 6,400 RPM. I now know that I had the commanded shift points too high (6,300/6,400).

Either it's running out of air or fuel, or both, up top. Time for some more datalogging and tuning. Maybe lower the opening point for the IMRC's.

Next up:

Focus Fuel Pump
Cobra Intake
30 lb. injectors
Cobra Intake Cams

With 3,600 stall , 4:10 and sticky tires you should be doing much better on the 60'. Stock i managed a 2.3 60".

I'm not sure what you were expecting either, but you ran close to the same as my '96 with similar mods (4.10s, trac-lok, 3500 converter, cat back exhaust, J-mod and chip), including 2.0x sixty foot times.

The headers are only as good as the intake will allow. Unfortunately the Gen2 intake is anemic.

Congrats on your times even if it wasn't what you were expecting! ;)

Thanks!

I was expecting something a little closer to 14 flat.....

I did find that in my tune I had copied the IMRC opening/closing points from one of my early Cobra tunes, and it was opening 250 RPM later than stock (not good ).

At least I have the intake solution in my garage :D

That ought to put your car in the 13s on a good day at a good track all by itself. Your short times will likely benefit as well. I'm sure with some datalogging, you will squeeze more out of the tune as well. :)

Knowing you, that intake will be polished to a mirror finish! :D

Actually, I'm not into polishing, it's too "high maintenance" (I've already got a wife and daughter for that ;)). I was thinking of trying to find a Lincoln Logo to replace the Cobra logo, and then have the intake top and valve covers powder-coated red.

Nice time, but I think you need some work in the first 1/8 mile. Here is the best time I had at SSHS6 back in 2006, with just about the same exact mods as your Mark - I did not have headers. 1-2 shift was at 7000, 2-3 was at 6400. I had a dyno tune and a 90mm C&L MAF and cone filter, 3000 PI single disc, some jmod trans work, 410's & T-lock, MMX DS, MT DR's on stock rims, 2 1/2" mandrel bent SS exhaust.

My best run:
60......2.049
330.....5.893
1/8.....9.051
MPH....77.95
1000...11.800
1/4....14.132
MPH....96.79

The 2006 SSHS was very cold as I recall with temps starting in the upper 30s! DA ranged from -610' to 460' according to my logs for the day. That's quite a bit better atmospheric conditions than DLF had on his first time out with his Mark VIII. :)
