Hello All,
My Mark VIII came with stripped gears in the driver’s seat that would not let it go forward or Back even though the motor was working.
I then purchased some spares from ebay, but they only included the motors, switches, and Memory modules. Enough for 3 seats.
I reviewed and tried the fix in http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?17509-Seat-motor-repair-tips-(long) and found out that my gearbox was stripped.
I then ordered a driver’s seat track from a Gen 1.
Before instilling this I decided to check to see if I could use anything from my 1996 Cougar. The seat was broken in the crash.
I took apart the Cougar’s seat and pulled the seat motor. I compared this to the one form the Mark and found that the only differences are in the back-plate. So I decided to use the gearbox from the Cougar with my existing motors.
Remove the seat for the car.
Remove the trim.
Align the seat so the gear is even with the opening in the track.
Remove the tack clips.
Undo the bolts opposite the motors
Slide the track away far enough to remove the axle.
Move the memory module aside.
Undo the two nuts holding the motor.
Remove the two T30 bolts from inside the track.
Gently pry away the track from the motor then
Remove the two aluminum Covers (gently pry these away)
the motor should now come loose.
Tag the memory position connectors and remove these and the motor power connector.
Separate the three motors from the Cougar gearbox
Remove the metal protective cover from the back of the motors.
Tape the back cover to the motors.
Remove the back covers from the gearbox.
Attach the replacement gearbox to the existing motors. Be careful to align these in the gears.
Reassemble the seat.
