Default Gen 2 cup holder won't close

This is strange, all of a sudden it won't close, it moves up to about an inch of closing but then it hits a hard stop.

    Anyone ever seen this before?

Take it apart and check for loose change?

If there's nothing jamming it from beneath, I do feel like I encountered something similar where the "base" of the cupholder actually came 2/3rds loose from the console itself. it would shift/rotate ever so slightly in the assembly, causing it to interfere with something.. Grab the center divider when it is open, and give it a wiggle. See what you feel.

It could be something inside jamming it or one of the side gears came loose and is jamming it up or worse yet one side gear broke. I had them apart its not that bad once you understand how it functions.

A marvel of complicated stuff. What were they thinking when they built this setup?
