Here are two pictures. First complete shot of the engine bay ...

Second, the Densecharger CAI,

The rest of the pics can be seen here: http://mark8.org/users/madstgen/images/intake_swap/

I still need to rearange the plug wires, plus some other details.

Sharon, so what's happening that weekend ? I'll be in Chicago on Saturday.
I still need to find a place to stay since my friends will be out of town. Jon said we might need to do some stuff on his car ...

Glen, I took out about 1/8 all around except on one side about 1/16. I didn't touch the IMRCs. Upper looks just like Joe's. Right now it's like driving a turbo car. Once the IMRCs open up, it just goes. I would like to see the dyno curve on it now, but it'll all happen soon. I hope Jerry can work his magic on this setup. I wish I had headers before the tune, but that's not gonna happen.

RE: Intake swap complete !

Sorry, Jeremi, I assumed you'd be staying with your friends. ;-)

The dyno place is way up Northwest. Pretty far from Chicago (IMO) so you'll have to decide if you want to stay someplace out there, or more towards the city. Of course, if you stay somewhere close to 94, it won't be too bad either way.

You want to go out Saturday? Let's post in events and see if we can get some people to commit to going out. I will. On Sunday, I figured we could ask CJ if there was anyplace good to go for lunch, or just head to the Volo Auto Museum.

If you need someplace to stay, I'm sure Hubby wouldn't mind if you stayed with us. But you'd have to take the couch, cause we have no extra rooms.

RE: Intake swap complete !

Excellant Job Jeremi! Wiring looks good, install looks good as well. I noticed that it looks like there are hose clamps on the fuel lines though? If they come off that will make a mess and a potential fire. Make sure they are secured.

RE: Intake swap complete !

Joe, I used fittings that fit into the fuel rails (11 and 14mm) and have barbed ends, so it's secure. The lines are run straight to the filter and that other connector on the return line by the filter also using barbed ends. I believe it's rather secure. I'll keep my eyes open though. What are my other options to do these lines ? I was going to keep the stock ones, but there would have to be a very sharp bend right before the rails.

Harness was really easy to do, I only had to extend 5 or 6 12v wires to make it go around the intake in the back. I reused the original IAC, although I had the Cobra one just in case. I also reused the Mark IAT, and vaccuum lines and cruise control cable. I had to change the TB cable though. EGR is gone, so that's one less thing to worry about. I get a MIL now, but Jerry should be able to take care of that.

I thought I had seen fittings that mate to the fuel rail and adapted to AN couplers.

Would these work?

RE: Intake swap complete !

Yeah, these are great. I couldn't find them.
I'll redo these when the SC goes on.

Thanx, driller.

RE: Intake swap complete !

That's a great swap. Your pictures were enough to get me motivated to go ahead and do mine. I would like to contact you to answer questions on my swap. I'm putting a 94 Mark VIII engine and 4r70w in my 57 Thunderbird. The engine and trans are not in the car yet (seems like a perfect time to do the swap).

I figure that to start this, I'm going to need (from 96-98 cobra)...
- upper/lower intake plenum,
- TB and intake
- IMRCs and controller
- fuel rails
- Throttle cable (and pedal assembly)
I already have the stock Mark engine harness and the computer (with PATS disabled).

Anything important that I missed? I assume I'll need various other wiring parts, hoses, etc. I'm also assuming I'll be able to re-use some of the Mark VIII parts. Do you have a complete list of what you bought vs. reused?

Note: While the engine and tranny are out, I'll also upgrade the tranny (450hp bulletproofed with JMod, 3500 Stallion lockup converter, and Bauman TCS), plus add a 180 thermostat, remote oil filter, mid-length headers, and do the apten cooling mod, and I'll fab up a Mark fuel pump (with 255) in the stock tank. I've already got a shortened ford 9" with 4.11 posi, 31 spline axles, and disc brakes. Any other suggestions that will help get the most out of this motor/intake combo?

Also, anyone know where I can get the complete Mark VIII body wiring harness?

RE: Intake swap complete !

Jeremi, just add a few washers to the hood mounts, and the same amount under the fender mounting bolts, so they line up with the hood when the hood is shut. Ok, J/K

You can at least space the hood UP so you can drive it until you figure out what to do to solve the clearance issue.

I'm glad you posted about the fitment problem. I was always under the impression that if you notch the hood support on the back, it will fit. Guess not, huh?

Great job buddy. I hope that dyno-tune gives you a big surprise in the power!!!

Also, can you define "tires smoke easily", written right after you discussed DOWN SHIFTS. Are you refering to up shifts, or do the tires actually lock up during downshifts?

again, great job buddy. That car is a total sleeper. yea, its slung low when dropped, and looks awesome, but i am sure very few realize what lurks under the hood.(drool drool)

RE: Intake swap complete !

Craig, where you've been buddy ? I already forgot about the intake. There is a bigger project at hand now hehe

I already spaced the K member with some plates, about 3/8 or so. It's fine for now, but I'll prolly do something else soon.

I need to repaint either the whole car, or at least the whole front end, so some custom work is in order.

I was refering to the downshifts. Still, I need a T/C - we'll see how the Edge converter holds up in Glen's car.
