Water Temp Gauge

I'm installing a water temp gauge. I need to know where the sender unit needs to be installed. Does it replace the stock sending unit on the left side of the block under the radiator hose?

You can unscrew the old on and insert the new one. Make sure it is the one that has the single wire on it and not the other one. One sensor is used by the EEC, the other is gauge only I believe.

I replaced the factory sending unit with the one below

I now get a check engine light. If I plug the factory sending unit in while having the replacement sending unit installed the check engine light goes away
but the fan doesn't come on. If I leave the factory unit unplugged the fan stays on constantly and I get the check engine light.

By your pics, looks like you pulled the temp. sensor for the eec, not for the gauge.

you got the wrong one. Get the one on the other side.
