Default 98 Mark SC Build

Thought I would start a thread for the super charger I am having installed in the Mark. I will post updates as the build progresses. I am having the entire build done by professionals, and have given them the freedom to do as they wish to achieve the goals I have for the car, within reason ;) .

Goal:
I want to keep the stock bottom end, and install a Vortech super charger that will produce the max amount of hp, 400-450hp, the motor, and the rest of the drive train can handle. I will use the car as a daily driver, long interstate trips, and it will see the drag strip. It must be well mannered. No drama :)

I will start with the current list of mods already done to the car, that will not change, and will be there when the SC install is complete:

SCT Xcal2 Flash tool
2 1/2" Custom mandrel bend SS exhaust
PI Single disc torque converter
Dynotech Metal Matrix Drive shaft
Ford Racing deep well trans fluid pan
Ford Racing 410 gears
Ford Racing Trak-Lok Diff
Raxle SC T-Bird rear half shafts

I dropped the car off today to have the transmission rebuilt to handle 500 hp+, install a transmission cooler, and to have the PI torque converter sent back to PI to have it re-stalled for the Vortech.

The trans builder, Steve, said he is going to replace, and also add some additional plates made out of a much better friction material, and who knows what else he is going to do. He said I will not have to worry about the transmission when he is done with it.

I am still working on who is going to do the SC install, and should be able to decide tomorrow.

I've been told by a couple guys on this board that the stock engine can handle up to 450 rwhp...hopefully some of them will chime in. I'm guessing that this is 550-600 HP at the flywheel.

I myself am installing a turbo this year that will make that much on a stock motor, though I am also told that you can get more 'safe' power from a turbo rather than an SC.

Crank up that boost man!

Mike I would scale back the gears to 3.55 if I were you. You will most likely have no traction with the 4.10s and the blower. Plus with the power you will be making it doesn't make much sense to run high gears.

This doesn't apply to vortech blowers. High stall + as much gear as possible is the only way you can REALLY enjoy centri blowers IMHO.

I would second that. Those blowers have nothing down low.

Yep, the drivetrain is set-up for a Vortech now. I had the Vortech in mind when the mods started last year. :)

Just returned from Aric's shop. Had to drop off a check to get the ball rolling again. He is going to do a totally custom air to air aftercooler behind the bumper.

Guess he is going to put a 03 Cobra radiator and fan in to make some space.

I want all the aftercooler pipes to be powder coated black, to keep the stock look going. The compressor head unit is going to be highly polished though - bling

Now I have to wait for the parts to get here from California, before the real fun starts... Stay tuned...

How big an aftercooler?

Does the Gen2 lower bumper have lower valance openings like the Gen1?

That would make it possible to have the aftercooler mounted in the lower bumper area without being behind the grille directly in front of the AC condenser/radiator, even if there would need to be modifications to the valance openings or the aftercooler.

Just a thought.

I do not know the size of the aftercooler, but yes, there is a opening below the bumper, that gen2 people usually put a transmission cooler in.

In fact, Steve was going to use that spot for the trans cooler. He has not installed the trans cooler yet, because he wanted to wait for Aric to finish the SC and aftercooler install first. Guess the trans cooler is going to have to be mounted somewhere else.
