Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

Very nice! I buried the needle in the Pearl Mark VIII going from Hobbs to Lubbock TX on the back roads one night. I made that 100 mile trip in 52 minutes. There are a lot of stop signs between those two points too. I was somewhere around 145 or so and decided to back out of it, due to the bad vibration..
Did 109-112 many times in my 68 fastback in teh 1/4 mile though...

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

197-202mph in My t/a

i dont know if il ever wring out the vette that high.... i got it up to 150mph with ease without the gas plus i have the gear to do 220... maybe one day

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

130 in my '66 Pontiac Catalina. At those speeds, being able to turn the steering wheel with your pinky is NOT a benefit.

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

155 in an m3

120 or so in my old thunderbird.

127 on my dads bmw r80 which was pretty scary. Cop pulled up along side at that speed and shone his white side light on me and kept going. Scared the urine out of me.

In my mark I think only about 110 or 115.

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

The fastest I've been has been on a bike... 196MPH It was a highly modified GSXR1100 (1254cc) stuffed into a 750 frame. It only weighed 420LBS, full of fuel.

Heehee! He was showing you that he was faster! See, we can have a sense of humor.

144 in a T/A in high school. I was sitting on the center console calling out the speed. We were on a narrow but straight country road and I am still surprised to have lived through those years!

I have hit the limiter on the Mark several times. (Really need to get that chip!)

Hit the limiter in the BMW 540i at 155. That car was perfectly stable and comfortable at that speed. It got there very quickly, too.

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

196 in my buddies hennessey650R viper. it ran out of gear just shy of 200.We had it verified with gps.

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

I drove my 96 Saturn SC2 up to 120. Wind noise was quieter withthe windows DOWN, but the car ran smooth (surprisingly)

my Mark has been up to 147, but that was while strapped on a dyno!

The fasted I have driven it is about 123 or so. However next month I am going to Boulder Co for some training, and I have convinced my boss to let me drive. I-80 across NE,I'm sure I will see over 123 !

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

40MPH in a 1978 Lamborghini Countach. Hey, it was the side streets of Oak Park Illinois and it obviously wasn't my car. I still FELT like I was flyin'! Oh... and I wasn't driving.

RE: Fastest you've ever gone in a car?

I have gone 110 miles per hour in my 1959 Thunderbird on a trip from New York to Pennsylvania. I slammed on the brakes in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Luckily, the brakes were good enough to stop the car a few feet before it would have plunged into Pacific Ocean.

1958 - 1960 Thunderbird owners are still thanking former Ford president Robert McNamera for his wise decision of telling the development engineers to use the brakes from the lighter Ford on the Thunderbird and not to waste money on disc brakes for the car. Car owners want cheaper brakes on their cars, not ones that actually can stop the cars.

500 mph but......

500 mph but......

Well it's not exactly a car, but about one hour later I was sitting in this M-1 Tank going over 500 mph in the back of a C-17 Globemaster III.

Also I know of another M-1 Tank that had the armour and the 120mm gun removed so it only weighed about 90,000 pounds instead of 120,000+ and with the Avco Lycoming AGT turbine, multi-fuel 1500 hp engine "un-governed" was able to reach 73 mph before locking up the tracks and tearing up over a thousand feet of grass next to a runway at Westover AFB Mass.

Tanks are cool :)

I've only done a measly 120mph. Once while riding in a friend's Stealth R/T and a couple times driving the Mark.

In my Mustang 80mph is interesting enough, although I've been in it while it was driven at 100-110 (hard to tell exactly since the speedo stops at 85).

In my 90 Mustang LX 5.0 when it was new, 140 mph+ was suprisingly smooth. In my 89 Mustang LX 5.0 with 180,000+ miles anything over 90 mph feels like 200 mph.

Tony, get the 140 mph updated Mustang speedo, unless you like being able to "peg it" in 2nd (LOL). ;)

Well, my Mustang has had a very hard life (from previous owners). It's pretty rough (the solid motor mounts don't help any ;) ). I can't imagine doing 140 in it, that'd be instant death I'm sure. It has 4.10 gears, so it won't peg the speedo in second gear. Maybe at the top of third. I was thinking of getting a full Autometer dash, but I want to sell that car now. Time for a new project.

RE: 500 mph but......

Ok, so I know this post is old... but I thought you'd like to know that I had one of our 2002 120" stretch (28 foot long car) Town Cars on the interstate with the cruise at 110...

I did get it as fast as 115 but I slowed back down because one (or all) of the car's three drive shafts started to vibrate badly. It was comfortable at 110. I was driving the “Logan Express”... :D

They made there flight... :D

RE: 500 mph but......

I decided to see how well the chip worked at higher speeds. I was going 80mph and hit the gas..120 in a heartbeat.

RE: 500 mph but......

I was in the Mark with a couple of my boys and had the cruise control set at 115 on the highway the other night, yeah, we were in a rush...Concord to Manchester in 4 minutes...

But The fastest I have ever been going while I was in control was 2 days ago in a Mooney M20J Bravo. We trued out at just over 210 mph.
