RE: Man corvettes are weak!!!!
"Ok, for 30 years the Corvette chasis sucked."
To todays standards, yes, I agree completely. For back then I disagree with you whole heartedly. There is a HUGE difference between cars today and 30 year old vettes. Everytime I switch cars I am in awe. One of the cars always out does the others in at least one aspect.
I know its not quite the best comparison, the mark (1996), the T/A (1977), and the vette (1967). But go drive them all, and then tell me what you think. Just so you know, I do have experience with other cars as well. I have driven my friends dads Mercades SL 600 quite a bit and his Porshe Carerra on a few occasions as well. I do have a feel of different cars.
Out of all of my cars, the the Mark rides and corners the best. Unless your powersliding the T/A through a turn. Runner up to that position would be the Vette. The T/A would come in last, with the exception of sliding it.
"...they still ride like a wash board"
Compareing to todays standards yes. Back then, definetly not. Our vette, which is 10 years older than the Trans Am has a smoother and softer ride. It has slightly more play in the stearing, but I will relate that back to the skinny factory issued red wall tires. Theres no doubt in my mind that with some nice fat drag radials on the car it would handle great and there would be no play at all in the steering.
As far as finding the car to be brittle or fragile, I haven't seen it. Yes we do baby the car, its always lifted up on a jack point and we are extremlly careful around it but it has shown no sign at all of being weak.
But what do I know. I'm only 19, wasn't allowed to touch the vette till I was 17. Over those 2 years I've maybe, at the most put 150 miles on it. Both you and Petey definetly have more experience with the cars. At least one of you, not to mention any names (nysbadmk8) knows what he's talking about.
