Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

Former LOD President
I recieved the following email from "paysecurity@paypal.com" today, after paying for my LOD banquet dinners. I find it highly suspect, and i would just like to remind anyone that gets this email that it is NEVER a good idea to send any sensitive information (such as what is requested below) through email. I sent a notice to paypal, letting them know that there is either some fraud going on, or they are involved in some very shaky business practices.

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

Wow. I never got that, but thanks for the heads up!

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

That looks legit to me, they did not ask you to e-mail it, they ask you to go to their sight, login and enter it, and it does not look like a redirect to me. However there are paypal scams that do mimic the paypal website so be sure thet the URL begins with https://www.paypal.com

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

There's only one place to ask - Paypal. And don't use the link in that email to go there. Go to paypal.com - or find it through EBay or something.

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

Did you check the e-mail header to see if the senders address was spoofed? Some people may be confused and reply with that info by e-mail.

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

Ill guarantee it was spoofed. GO to paypal.com and look around for a way to report this to them and forward it to them for action. They will tell you if its legit. if it isnt, they have a heads up on someone using hey're customers as targets for fraud. Ebay had a similar problem a few weeks back.

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

Smells fishy to me, PayPal always tells people they never ask for your password, and never to give it out.

They have, however, lately been asking users to verify their info when they sign on, they simply ask you to check if your info is up to date and that is that. I never heard of them sending you an email after the fact.

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

DO NOT DO IT - There is something going around. They got me last week with eBay. They sent me an email about user and name verification and I laughed at it but later that day my wife responded to it. Well guess what - 2 days later I received a change of email confirmation and later that day I got a call from someone in Florida about an auction they just won and were wondering if I was really selling the $5k camera for $2K - be careful. Thank goodness I was able to catch it in time before anyone was to pay for their goods. These dudes were in Berlin Germany trying to make a fast buck. Well my wife learned a valuable lesson...

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

Yea, i'm obviously smart enough not to do it. I immediately reported it to paypal. There is no way they need that info for any kind of verification. And it was in a form style, like you fill it out in the email and click the button (which you can't see because there's no html in my post, just the text).

I just hope no one gets ripped off by this.

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

That could be it, if it came over in HTML we are not seeing the form or the HTML redirected URL in the post here. it could look like this:

[link:www.mark8.org| https;//www,paypal,com/]

but take you some place else when you click it

RE: Anyone else get a shaky email from paypal?

I got a "quarterly statement" from PayPal from an email address that started "announcements@a...". It contains a picture, so I won't open it. I used PayPal only once and that was to join here 2 years ago. I have never gotten a quarterly statement before so why now? I'm not going to open it. I will probably delete eventually.
