Thanks for the link. :)

I guess you're referring to the "I Hate The French Vanilla" as I didn't see the word hate in anything in regards to the companies name. (I'm 25% French too but I'm not offended)

Is there something wrong with hate? I hate bigotry. Does that make me dangerous?

(By the way. I met Mark when I bought the Neon Tail Light he had for sale, and he's a real gentleman) :)

Yeah, the "I Hate the French Vanilla" was what I was referring to. I was doing a little variation on the old Smuckers slogan, "With a name like Smuckers, it has to be good". I just think the whole thing is silly.

I don't have a problem with these guys selling this stuff. It just seems to me like someone trying to make a buck off of the current trend of "patriotic correctness".

$76 for four quarts. That's $19 per quart!

I think I will stick with Baskin and Robbins.

RE: With a word like

This is a true story.

Many years ago, my best buddies little sister's Mom met a lady who had a son. The two of them get to talking and the lady wants to fix my buddies sister up with her son, then 24 years old he was (and my buddies sister was 20.) Well sister wanted to see a picture of him, so one was given to her & she saw the beard and "scuffy" look and was kinda interested in him. But he was leaving Jersey to go up to Vermont. VERMONT? Why the heck would he be going THERE, she said? Benjamin's Mom said he wants to make Ice Cream. My friend's sister asked, "Is this some kinda Summer Job"? Nope, he want s career in making Ice Cream, his Mom said! NO THANKS, my buddies sister said. I wanna marry a guy who has A CHANCE at being rich!
She wound up marrying a guy who drives a trunk (18 wheeler) for A&P Supermarkets and EATING her dates Ice Cream! Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's. Absolute Truth. Ben's originally a Jersey kid.

RE: With a word like

Its more honorable to be married to a truck driver than a man who supports a convicted cop killer.

RE: With a word like

$19 a quart? No thanks, I'll eat home made using my Ben And Jerry's Ice Cream & Dessert Book.

Mmm, home made ice cream. My grandma used to make the best home made vanilla ice cream on the planet. I remember as a kid, we'd take a drive to a local farm and get the cream practically straight out of the cow. Then the FDA stepped in and made it illegal for them to sell anything to us unless it was pasteurized. But even with Half and Half, it was the best.

The fun part was using the hand operated ice cream machine. A lot of great conversations were had cranking that thing out on the back porch. She once bought a motorized one, but it wasn't nearly as fun just watching the thing spin, so she got another hand-cranked one, while the motorized one got sent to the garage to collect dust.

She's no longer with us, but those memories will be with me until I die. That was a great time to be a kid.

What wrong with killing cops? :)

As far as Ben and Jerry supporting a murderer, it's total BS. Aren't you a LEO? Guess you don't do any investigating before you make accusations, eh? Good detective work...

From Ben and Jerry's Web Site:

Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. and all of our employees have deep and heartfelt sympathy for Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, his family and his fellow officers, over his tragic death over 20 years ago (12/9/81). The loss of anyone's life is reprehensible. The loss of a law enforcement officer's life in the line of duty is particularly egregious.

Unfortunately, there continues to be misinformation - outright false statements and accusations - concerning this tragedy. To set the record straight, neither Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. nor the Ben & Jerry's Foundation have ever taken a position - formal or informal - on any aspect of this tragic case, the sentence or the guilt or innocence of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Any comment to the contrary is both false and irresponsible.

There are two particularly absurd falsehoods being circulated, primarily on the Internet. One is that Ben & Jerry's made contributions to groups involved in this case. Ben & Jerry's has never, and will never, make any such contributions. The other falsehood involves allegations that Ben & Jerry's has an ice cream flavor whose name is connected to this case. That is both totally false and absurd.

Any misunderstanding regarding Ben & Jerry's connection with this case may have stemmed from the fact that Ben Cohen, one of our co-founders, acting as a private citizen, joined hundreds of other people in signing a petition in 1995 calling for a re-trial. Mr. Cohen made his decision to sign as a private citizen, stating "I am in no position to judge his guilt or innocence. For all I know, a new and impartial trial could find him guilty again. But the American system of justice must be fair and must be perceived as fair."

It is understandable that people have difficulty separating in their minds that when Ben Cohen makes a private choice to do something, he does not represent Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. As a company, we respect each individual's inalienable right to make those choices.

We trust that this will clear up any confusion or misunderstandings regarding this issue.

Wow Ron, I can see you are really are a detective yourself. You quote drivel from Ben & Jerry's Web Site to support your position defending the accusations levied against them. Good work!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

He signed a petition demanding a new trial for a cop killer. There is no evidence to support that a new trial should be granted. There is no new evidence and there was no objection that would or could change the outcome. He is supporting victimizing the family and friends of a fallen officer.

As for seperating the business and the person I disagree. I refuse to put money into the hands of a man who would support such things. Who knows how much of that profit he could be donating in private to support victimizing the family.

As for your comment about good detective work, I was right on. You went to the most biased source available and it still clearly shows his support. They watered it down the best they could, and it is still obvious that he supports a cop killer.

RE: With a word like

This little blurb was taken from the Press Release of Ben and Jerry's. It was at several different web-site, but I thought the source of the press release would be best. As far as biased goes, you'll note that this story it being spread on about EVERY police organization website....so my press release is no more biased that where the story is coming from. As far as detective work, I CAN be excused...I'm an engineer afterall, and not a LEO. ;)

Don't confuse what a person does in his private life with the company he works for. If the company makes a public statement that they don't support his views, that should be good enough. Unless, of course, you are one of those conspiracy freaks.

RE: With a word like

RE: With a word like

Unless, of course, the man runs the company. I have no problem with a man signing a petition, it's his right to do so. But if I disagree with him on this matter, or on his political views, i have the right (and the responsibility, IMO) not to support that man with my money. Why should my work (in the form of my money) go to support those i hate (dislike, disagree with, it's all the same)? In the end i'm just working for my enemy...

Notice the complete lack of references to Ben in that paragraph... i do not know the case so i shall keep my trap shut about it.

RE: With a word like

RE: With a word like

I agree that if you do not like a man's views on a subject, (in this case, signing the petition for a new trial for a convected cop killer) then you are justified not to spend your money on his product. However, do you know the owners of all of the prodicts that you DO support with your money? Do you also know the view, opinions & political adgendas of the major stockholders and Board of directors of the other companies???
Do you know that the Japanese over in Japan own Rockerfeller Center? Do you go to see the Christmas Tree Lighting there? You are thereby supporting it. Ever go to a Sony Movie Theatre? Japan owned, ya know. Buy a CBS CD? Watch CBS TV? All Japanese owned. If you live in NY/NJ do you eat potatoes? Every one that gets processed for consumption is duly processed by a Japanese group that runs 1,000s of pre-teen girls house of prostitution in Japan, and makes "blue" movies in which the girls are tortured & some killed at movies end, live on tape!! They take THAT money (mega millions) and buy American culture with it. Play at Pebble Beach Golf Club? Similiar Group there!
I could go on & on & on.
Why not picket all of CBS/Sony/Potatoes? Seems worse than signing a petition to me. You cannot be selective!!! All & follow thru, or nothing!
(and) Yes, before you ask, I have not been to a Sony Movie in 21 years, I watch ABC or NBC or FOX and I seldom eat potatoes.

RE: With a word like

I have my ideals and do the best that I can with them. If I find that a person supports something I dont believe in, then I try not to do business with them.

I am trying to lose weight, so I am cutting fat out of my diet. Am I bad becouse I still eat some fat?

I try to buy american products whenever I can. When I dont, does that make me bad?

Do you know what the parent company to your Jeep built during WWII? Yet you still purchase thier products.

Dave said it best. This is a capitalist society. The best way to send a message to somebody like this is to not support them. Our gov't is currently shutting down organizations who are known to support terrorists.

RE: With a word like

RE: With a word like

Well heck..I guess you better not support George W. Bush since his grandpa Prescott Bush was charged for provided financial aid and raw materials to the Nazis. This is well documented, and is available at most any library. In 1942, these Bush companies were seized under the Trading with the Enemy Act: the Union Banking Corporation, the Holland-American Trading Corporation, the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation and Silesian-American Corporation.

But on a different note...is Ben and Jerry's that good? We don't have any here in Canada (that I know of, anyways...)

I think the bigger question here is how does Sandy know about the connection between NY & NJ potatoes and underage Japanese sex slaves?
