You guys remember a couple of years ago my mentioning the Diesel Repair Critic? Well, this is his little brother: the Lift Safety Inspector.

Colored and patterned like a Diamond back rattlesnake, most people think this is a Bull snake.
These snakes will bite, or at least strike out if you piss them off.
This one was too full (the wife insists she sees his dinner making a
lump in the snake shown in the second picture) and warm to bite
anybody. I opened garage door and insisted he leave. He left.

The garage door was open a few hours before sun down and so the
concrete pad was nice and warm. My little buddy here must have found
himself a nice warm spot to rest while inspecting the auto lift.
HOTLNC is parked out of camera range to the left.

Thank you, Jerry, for reminding me why I don't live in TX. ;-)

I wonder what he ate? Anything missing?

[muffled sound] daddy? daddy? it's dark in here... daddy? Where are you?

HOTLNC,

It's definitely from the family Colubridae....a family of snakes that I currently own, and have bred. I'm going to take a stab and say it is a Rat Snake (Elaphe)...particularly a Great Plains Rat Snake...but it's tough to say exactly which one, since there colourations vary wildly even from county to county. Elaphe will when cornered or threathened, beat their tails wildly in the dry grass, and believe it or not, sound like a quieted down version of a Rattler. And whith their pattern, you might even confuse it for one! They are harmless, and only have teeny teeth. (I have been bitten many times..not painful..just shocking).

How large do they get? I've seen skins longer than 6-7 feet.

Neat! My brother has a pet boa constrictor. It's pretty cool, just hungry all the time :)
