Just curious...

I just got my mail-in Michigan registration for the Mark VIII plate for August,2003 to August,2004.

State of Michigan wants $149.00 bucks for the year.

What state are you in and what do they "clip" you for?

RE: What does your License plate cost?

Illinois.

A vanity plate is defined as having 1, 2 or 3 numbers only or 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 letters only.

A Personalized plate is defined as license plates containing letters and then numbers in a specific requested order. Such as, 3 letters plus 1000 thru 9999, 4 letters plus 1 thru 999. 5 letters plus 1 thru 99, 6 letters plus 1 thru 9

RE: What does your License plate cost?

Here in the PRC (people's republic of California) they just tripled it.

Mine used to be $149... now it'll be $450. My contour used to be like $180, so now it'll be $540. My 66 tbird used to be about $30, now it'll be $90.

I was thinking about buying a newer car, but the reg on those can be $1000, and tripled would be $3000. Screw that.

I can't belive the auto manufacturer's let that pass. Its going to kill car sales.

Yet another reason to get the hell out of the PRC

RE: What does your License plate cost?

I'm in the same boat as Dave Sinclair (same car, same state, whoda guessed?) but my plate cost an extra $35 when i initially registered for the vanity plate.

As for the California, everytime i hear about new legislation out there, i either shake my head at the lawmakers, or shake my head at the federal government who won't let it happen. It seems that the only good laws they're passing out there, the feds are stepping in and ignoring anyway.

RE: What does your License plate cost?

Dave Sinclair,
Mine is 154.00 in Wayne county. hurts doesn't it. My old ranger is 29.00

RE: What does your License plate cost?

$51.80 in Texas. My wife's '99 Expedition was around $63.00, but it is based on gross weight and is classified as a truck. Newer passenger car plates cost somewhere close to $70.00.

RE: What does your License plate cost?

When I renewed my Indiana plates last year it cost $70.75. I will be purchasing a Hoosier Veteran plate this year. They cost an additional $25.00. The new standard Indiana plates are so ugly, I won't disgrace a beautiful car by placing them on the back. In Indiana, the cost of plates go down every year, until at 12 years old, they have hit the minimum cost of $25.00.

RE: What does your License plate cost?

I just renewed my vanity plates for Moose, I think it was something like $75 for two years.

RE: What does your License plate cost?

Here in New Brunswick,Canada, it costs me $104 for a year, and that is also based on vehicle weight.

RE: What does your License plate cost?

It's been over a year since I renewed the plate on my Cougar, and when I registered the Mark it also included sales tax so I don't remember what the registration fee was. MO also charges personal property tax on cars.

RE: What does your License plate cost?

In some states (I think) they also tax cars as personal property. Do any of you also have to pay personal property taxes on your cars or on other belongings?

Zero personal property taxes in Illinois.

Here in Cobb County Georgia, we have a Ad Valorem tax. This is what I pay for a one year tag for my 98 LSC:

Emission Test $25.00
Standard Tag $20.00
Ad Valorem Tax $154.73

RE: What does your License plate cost?

Well, what about city stickers? Does everyone have them or is that an Illinois thing? (Although I thought some cities in Illinois don't require them and unincorporated areas don't need them either.)
