Can't win for losin'...HIDs

RE: Can't win for losin'...HIDs

Thanks for the article john

hmmmmm...... now if I can just find my 6mm and wrench so I can drive my HID's to the sky to piss those jealous halogen drivers off!

HID's don’t glare from the factory, its those FAKE HID's looking blue bulbs that get mis-aimed to attempt to light up the road like a real HID would. I get more pissed off from the Ford rangers blinding me then HID's ever have.

RE: Can't win for losin'...HIDs

my dad's new truck doesnt have HIDs and it si more annoying to have that in oncomming traffic than even a ricer with bad HIDs. The lioghts are just mounted sooo high and aimed poorly. When im driving around and he is behind me, I can turn off the lights in the lincoln and still see the road fine from the light comming from the truck...

At first when I read that statement, I though you were a gen 1 owner, then I looked at your sig and..................

RE: Can't win for losin'...HIDs

What pisses me off is when some loser with a 4 headlight system swaps his wiring so that the high beams are on when the low beams should. Don't they know that the beams need to be swapped too?

Also, it looks stupid.

I have never been flashed when I had my low beams on.... unless it was a "smokey ahead" courtesy flash. But then again, I know how to properly align headlights.

However, I was told by a woman, "You have those annoying blue headlights? I hate those things!" She never even saw my car.

RE: Can't win for losin'...HIDs

People complain about HID's when they get beamed by those stupid blue halogens.

I've noticed Marks coming because of the headlights, but they've never given me ANY problem with glare. Trucks, on the other hand, are a problem. I'll occasionally beam them and get all pissed just to have them flash their brights and REALLY blind me.

RE: Can't win for losin'...HIDs

I've never been distracted or blinded by HIDs, it's always trucks and SUVs that sit so much higher.

Quote from the linked article:
“HID lights are distracting, painful and could even be a contributor to road rage,” Dennis Novak, a doctor from Forked River, N.J., said in a letter to the agency on April 8. “Not only do they blind the approaching vehicle in their path, but they often anger the approaching driver who impotently flashes his halogens, thereby annoying the row of cars behind the offending HID driver.”

That's one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard. So now it's not your fault that you have road rage, it's those darn HIDs!!! (But of course it's not your fault, this is America, it's always someone else fault, ask your lawyer!) Idiots...

RE: Can't win for losin'...HIDs

This was posted a while back too. It seems that there needs to a clear distinction between real HIDs and those icy hot bulbs they sell at Pep Boys. The general driver doesn't know the difference between the two and lump all brighter than usual lights into the same category. There's a reason why they are on "premium" vehicles. What's next, take away the turn signal LEDs in the mirrors because they could distract a driver next to us? As TM posted, its always someone else's fault.

“Not only do they blind the approaching vehicle in their path, but they often anger the approaching driver who impotently flashes his halogens, thereby annoying the row of cars behind the offending HID driver.”

Maybe we should stick this driver behind the wheel of a 1st generation and have him drive down a narrow, twisting, two lane-two way mountain road at night.

What annoys me are the "maroons" who drive around in perfectly clear weather with their fog lights and driving lights on. Around here seems to be H2 country, all the soccer moms driving H2s lit up like Christmas trees, with all their available lights turned on. Thing is, it's illegal to drive with fog lights unless ivisibility is low but the cops don't ticket these drivers.

DRL's are just as bad. They're like bright lights for the daytime. I've been nearly blinded by daytime running lights a couple of times, usually at dusk before they turn on the headlights.

Around here the law says basically that under no circumstances can there be more than 4 white lights lit on the front of a car at once. No distinction is made between fog lights, driving lights, daytime running lights, or headlights.

RE: Can't win for losin'...HIDs

Whenever I have my headlights on in my Cougar (night, rain, or other poor visibility situations) I turn the foglights on too. I'm not sure why the fog lights would both you, if they are aimed properly they should shine low to the ground and not be an issue.

These maroons are almost as bad as the stupid fuschia's that bloom in the spring with chrysanthemum's....

Foglights have never bothered me so much, but I've never seen a case where stock foglights on a newer car actually provide useful illumination. They're more for styling than anything, really.
