Funny Prescription Label

Some pharmacies now have computerized prescription labels, including ones in several different languages for the different ethnic populations.

I am not sure how helpful they are.

This is the directions on the label on the bottle of one of my patient's precriptions:

"TOME 1 TABLETA EVERY 8 HOURS COMO NECESARIO PAIN"

The patient needs to know Spanish and English to read that.

I hate to ask, but what pharmacy is your patient using? The only reason I ask is because I work for one of the biggest.

Bell Drugs in Brooklyn, New York. It may be an independent pharmacy.

Thats not either english or spanish. They missed FOR at the end of that, which is Para or Por....

IMNSHO, they should probably just print the damn things in english, at least that way when someone goes to ask for help reading it, whoever gets it has a fair chance. Like Alexander said, hand that to someone who isn't fully english and spanish literate and you're playing with fire....

Oh, and most people would use Pastilla instead of Tableta.

That label would be even more confusing if it was French and English, since "pain" means "bread" in French.
