So today is the one year anniversary of the purchase of my '98 Mark VIII LSC. Bought it with 51,126 miles on the clock, right now it's showing 69,840. So that's 18,714 miles in one year
Truthfully, I don't know how you guys with low-mileage Marks do it. I leave mine in the driveway over the weekend and by Monday morning I'm jonesing to get back behind the wheel. Such a nice car to drive around, super smooth all the way up to (and including) 120mph (or so I've read in the owner's manual officer ).
In that time I've done this:
Auxiliary transmission cooler installed - B&M SuperCooler 24,000 GVW (70264)
New fuel filter, ceramic front brake pads, spark plugs (Autolite 764 Platinum)
#6 spark plug boot replaced
Left brake light/turn signal bulb replaced
Transmission fluid and filter changed - Mercon V and Motorcraft filter
Dyno tune
Autometer Lunar oil pressure and voltmeter installed
Driver's seatback seat heater replaced, driver's seat track replaced
New serpentine belt (Dayco Poly Cog)
New Motorcraft IAC valve (F67Z-9F715-BB) and new Motorcraft TPS (F4SZ-9B989-AA)
4 oil changes, all with Valvoline 5W-30 and Motorcraft filter (and almost due for another)
So as you can see, my Mark has been relatively trouble-free, which is a very good thing. When I bought this car it was pretty much "America's last chance." You see, my family has had historically bad luck with American-made vehicles and equally good luck with foreign cars. If this car turned out to be a bucket too I would have gone back to foreign cars for good (as daily drivers, I'd always have a Mustang for a toy). I can honestly say that I hope my next daily driver will be another Lincoln (although I hope this one will stay with me for many more years).
And a big THANKS to everyone on this board, without your technical advice I probably never could have afforded keeping up with this car! Here's to many more happy years with the Mark VIII
