What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

We have been looking on car lots for a replacement for the Mark. We look through car lots, and if something catches out eye, I'll book an appointment to see the vehicle. In our journeys, I've seen many cars that are advertised as "loaded", and when I look inside, I see options that are missing. These are things I know are available for the car, but aren't there. And not trivial options that Sandy may order, but REAL options. Like leather. Or moonroof. Or automatic climate control..even a cd changer. I had always thought "loaded" meant pretty much all options. Was I wrong in this expectation? And it's not unique to Canada..several lots in the US had loaded cars that weren't. What does the term "loaded" mean to you??

RE: What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

to me loaded means its got more than 75% of the available options.... otherwise its misrepresented.

And with that, all of our cars, except the F250, is loaded. And only my Mark and the Explorer are fully loaded.

RE: What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

To me, "Loaded" means... cant walk straight.

In "Car Sales" terms, it must refer to the fact that it starts, has tires that hold air(for at least 75 feet), and all glass is in place. otherwise, more than half the cars I saw while looking were misrepresented. Big green neon sticker screaming out.."Loaded"... just means.. "We needed a sticker on this car to catch your eye, and thats the only one we had left".
Loaded.... yea...

RE: What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

Loaded= At least leather seats and almoust every option except for a few. In other words Leather, Automatic Climate control (if available), moonroof, upgraded wheels, upgraded stereo.

RE: What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

Ahhhh, but one man's "trivial" is another man's necessity, right?

Loaded means: Radio/heater/power steering & brakes & windows and A/C.
You'd be surprised to 90% of all people, THAT does represent LOADED. They don't care about, or want leather, automatic headlamps, power trunks, CDs or "optional" wheels. Most used car buyers are less (way less) fussy than new car buyers, regarding options. We, here are "Car People" and we represent 10% of the population "out there". Very few people that I have met that are actually **IN** the car business are "Car People" ~ it's jsut a business of pushing the metal, whether it be cars or vegitables!!! That is why so many in the business are "Car Dumb" - They have no REAL genuine interest, it's just a product. Many, however are into boats (especially the wealthy owners who have yachts. The salesmen have 2 seat outboards or rowboats).

RE: What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

To me loaded means FULLY optioned.

Limited means.... FULL Optioned even with a few extra's.

RE: What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

I thought about replacing with a Mark....but want something slightly more interesting to drive.

Acura NSX
Infinity G35
Corvette
Boxster
Supra TT
SL32 AMG (can't afford this one..yet)
Jaguar XJR

All vehicles I've looked at are used. I refuse to buy new....

RE: What does

RE: What does

Acura NSX - Totally Impractical. Of course, might cure your middle-age crisis.
Infinity G35 - Not Used Enough Yet.
Corvette - Just Like Everybody Else.
Boxster - Girl's Car.
Supra TT - Now You're Talking.
SL32 AMG (can't afford this one..yet) - Keep Dreaming.
Jaguar XJR - This Is The One. Class AND Practicality.

They dont make SL32 AMG's. Its either an SL 55 AMG or SLK32 AMG.

RE: What does "Car is Loaded" mean to YOU??

I've been looking to replace the Mark as well. One of my employees drives a 2002 Bonneville SE, which I absolutely love to drive. Of course, I need the power so I am looking into SSEi's. I found one at a dealer close to my work which I like a lot. Looks like a great car, drives wonderful-- 2002 Bonneville SSEi with 780 miles. Yes, 780. The dealer and I are in squabbles right now as they consider this UNSOLD car (in 3+ years) as "new" and will not come down on the price at all. I'll go find something else if they can't help me, because I will NOT buy a car that's been sitting on a lot that long that nobody wants at sticker, or anywhere close. I've offered them $22,000...if they don't take it, I'll find someone who will.

RE: What does

RE: What does

Acura NSX- just dont like it, ricers exotic
Infinity G35- PERFECT, just needs a tad more HP
Corvette- as long as its C5, preferably ZO6!
Boxster- girl car, just screams "i want a porsche just to have a porsche"
Supra TT- oooooooo very nice, One of my favorite engines
SL32 AMG (can't afford this one..yet)- exactly (well assuming you are talking about SLK32 AMG)
Jaguar XJR- Country club car.. yeah 370hp but not worth it in my book

Ron, The GS400 is very deceptive in its acceleration, I worked at a lexus dealer for quite a few summers and had a chance to drive more than a handful. I raced my mark against a few of them and won every time. They would beat me right off the line but i would end up even pretty much every time. The smoothness of acceleration gives the sensation that it is REALLY quick, i thought it would kill my mark also, but it didnt. I saw the 13.99 1/4 time advertised, it must have been on a really cold day. Either that or the other guys i worked with didnt know how to push the gas pedal...

RE: What does

Bryan,

Are you serious..the NSX is impractical?? My bud had one. Drives around like an Accord. More comfy BY FAR than a Corvette. As reliable as a Civic. It is the MOST practical exotic around. (I'm not the only one to say this either...all car mags agree, and when Ford designed the new GT, they used the NSX as the benchmark for practicality and street civility). Have you driven one??? It is at the top of my list.

Infiniti isn't quite used enough yet...my problem is Infiniti released the car in Canada in silver only for the first little while..so all G35 I see are silver. Yuck.

I had to look at the Vette just cause it's a value leader as far a sports cars go.

Boxster was very nice, but would not buy one.

Supra I like ALOT. But they are still expensive...and they are few and far between here in Canada. Outstanding engine.

SLK32. I don't have to dream...it is affordable, but just barely. I can get them for low $50's here. Affordable, but I have no intention of spending my load.

Another MB we drove I REALLY liked was the CLK430 AMG. Very nice.

Which brings us to the Jaguar XJR. I nearly bought one last week. (even called Sandy and told him about it). For whatever reason, XJR are DIRT CHEAP here. New, they were over $100,000 here. A 1999 in mint condition, with all service records, with so-so mileage was offered to me at $25,000 CDN. They go from $25K-$35K CDN..much cheaper than the US market. However, (as with most of these cars I've looked at, I ask the price of replacement parts and such) to replace the engine on this car is upwards of $17,000. Yep..you read it right. So that kinda turned me off in a hurry. I like the car, and intend to keep it far beyond any warranty period, so it's a definite concern. Used engines are possible, but are few and far between, and in some lot of those engines, many had Nikasil problems with them..so I'd be a little leery.

Oh..another car that I really liked that I'd rank #2 (maybe #3..the CLK430 was very good) below the NSX was the Lexus GS400. LOTS of power, luxury like you couldn't believe, and VAULT quiet...which was part of the problem...it was TOO quiet. Almost antiseptic in the personality dept. It was loads faster than my modified Mark, especially off the line. Had lotsa power down low, which was kind of suprising considering it is also a DOHC V8. The tiptronic push button was neat, but I suspect I'd bore of it in a day or two. I wish I would have bought a GS instead of my Mark. It's a fantastic car.

So to sum things up my list, as of now, looks like this:

1)NSX = Solidly #1..daily driver friendly, semi-exotic, fairly quick, and smiles by the mile.

2&3) The GS and the CLK430 are very close here. I MIGHT give the nod to the GS, since the engines are very nearly bullet-proof. But the GS is lacking a little in personality...nothing a blower couldn't cure!

4) Supra. A very close 4th. VERY close. The ricey tail turns me off. The cost turns me off too. Car could look racier too...would need a very mild body kit. Engine and tranny are very tough though. Blocks will hold 700HP with ease.

5) G35 (350Z..maybe). Waiting for a wider colour selection.

We have done tons of research....and have drove nearly every vehicle under the sun over the course of the last year...still undecided, but the NSX is the leader at this point.

It is at the top of my list. (Danoz, if I rubbed off the Acura emblem and put a Ferrari emblem on it, you'd love it) Doesn't look ricey at all, and is rather timeless. It's a shape that doesn't seem to age.

RE: What does

RE: What does

Sandy's choice:-

#1. Acura NSX

#7. Jaguar XJ or XK "R" of no "R" Condition is the ruler.
#8. Corvette (MUST be low mileage !!)

Would not select any of the others due to dealer service dept arrogance associated with the mind-set of the brand, except for Infiniti, but I've never cared for the style of the "G"

RE: What does

RE: What does

If you don't mind 4 doors, try a BMW 5 series, everyone I know who has a beemer loves them; 6 or a V8 ; but no key pad entry on the Jag or BMW,and no message center ,not as much trunk space on any of the others, except the Corvette coupe. Had a friend with a NSX ,He agreed my Mark was faster at higher speeds, my son in law has a XJ8L,nice car but too sedanish for me....also for what a dealer will give you for your Mark VIII ,might as well keep it.(as you will miss it when it's gone) :-(

RE: What does

RE: What does

Danoz,

Nearly every test I've seen for the GS400 did 0-60 in sub 6 seconds (most were 5.8 or so)...although I did see one at 6.1 I think the Mark would catch it in the 1/4, but since I don't race a 1/4 mile on the street,(not many of us do) the GS is the quicker car. And of the several I've seen on the dyno, the weakest one made 232RWHP stock, and the strongest 251RWHP..most fell into the 235-240 range...stronger than most any stock Mark could hope to be. I did see one with a chip, exhaust, CAI make 264RWHP. Again, stronger than a Mark with similar mods. I wish I would have bought one of those instead of the Mark.....

RE: What does

RE: What does

I'd say go with the NSX. But don't get in any fender-benders, them aluminum bodies ain't cheap to fix.

I'd put the Corvette about even with the NSX. I'd rather have a Z06 than a NSX any day of the week, but if i didn't live in the motor city i'd take an NSX over a base C5.

XJR's are nice, but if that's the class you're looking for you need to take a look at the M5 too.

Supra TT's are badass, but if you get one, you have to go real big on the mods to keep up with the other Supra owners. But so what, who doesn't need 700 hp on their daily drive?

The Mercedes' are straight, if you get a fast one :). The Infiniti's are nice too but they don't do much for me. All in all you have a pretty good list there, good luck with whatever you buy.
