Very interesting read.

RE: Very interesting read.

I read it. It's alot of Bull Feces. Matt's Cherokee was rated low. At 15,500 miles and 30 months old, it has yet to have it's first "problem" ~ I don't even ever read the ratings. It's like looking at the forcast 2 weeks ago, for last weeks weather.

RE: Very interesting read.

So what Sandy...just because yours is trouble free, does that mean it's the industry wide standard? Have you ever had you new Town Car in for warranty work yet? At all..anyhing? I seem to recall you haveing the Jeep in once or twice for small warranty work as well. The problems are for ANY reason the vehicle is brought in, not just for major issues...

RE: Very interesting read.

"The average is 133 defects per 100 vehicles; five years ago it was 176 defects."

I swore off new cars quite a while back, but this number astounds me. 100 new vehicles = 133 problems At first I thought it was a typo, probably meant to say 'per 1000 vehicles', but reading on, it was obvious it wasn't a typo.

Sort of gives credence to the saying 'let the other guy break it in, fix all the bugs and take the depreciation.'

Of all the vehicles listed, the F-series Ford truck is my pick of the litter. In a car, I would consider ... none? I am intriqued by the Prius however due to its' hybrid technology.

Wait Sandy didn't you have a problem with the cherokee sputtering and almoust dying (misfiring?), so you brought it in and they replaced something related to the Spark plugs i can't recall exactly.

RE: Very interesting read.

No, the "problem" wit the Cherokee was a recall. To line the top of the engine with a protective heat shield. It took 10 minutes to do. However, I do recall one problem. The driver's side heated seat. The wire under the leather for the heating element cracked & split. They had to remove the seat, remove the leather and install new, recover & replace seat. That's the only problem I can recall. The battery installed at the factory was defective, and was replaced at 400 miles or so. That's been it.

Nothing yet with the Town Car

There is one design flaw with the Cherokee. You know how when you park and shut the engine, if you leave the headlights ON and open the door to get out, a chime rings to tell you the lites are on? Well....
if you park, turn off car, but leave the headlights ON, sit in car & rotate headlight switch to turn on the INTERIOR lights.....doing so will cancel the chime. Then, you turn off interior light (but headlights are still on, & you open door to leave, the chime will not chime. Somhow, turning on the interior lights cancels the chime.
Don't ask ne how I know this. It relates to the "defective" battery, above :)

RE: Very interesting read.

See Sandy? You've had 2 problems (seat and battery), which is higher than the industry average of 1.33 defect per vehicle. See?

RE: Very interesting read.

How can you tell if something is wrong with the town car if you have only drove if for 25 miles? :)

RE: Very interesting read.

Every model is going to have cars with problems. I don't go by these reports because you can go and buy the best rated and still have a ton of problems or buy the worse on the list and have no problems. Everyone said don't buy the Escape because of all the recalls. Guess what almost 66k on it and the only problem was I had to get the EGR sensor replaced. Seems it got stuck and triped the check engine light, fixed under warr. It's one of the best vehicles I have driven, fast handles great okay cargo room and great in the bad weather. So I don't look at these reports as closely as some do. Bet if they didn't have these reports out more people would have been buying American and maybe the Mark would still be availible.

RE: Very interesting read.

But those 2 problems have been over a period of 2 & 1/2 years...not the first 6 months!!!

Steve; greenKIN has 2,010 miles on him :) C'mon, that's 287 miles per month, average!!! JEEPERS is at 550 @ month, so, I'm not THAT far behind!

RE: Very interesting read.

Sorry, but a defective battery is NOT a Jeep problem... it is a Battery manufacturer's problem.

i.e. Go buy a Mag-lite... two years after using it, it has a dim bulb, and doesnt stay lit for more than 30 seconds or so... Does that constitute a defective Mag-lite? I think not.

Therefore, the Jeep in question had 1 problem. That leaves 0.33 in change!

Why is it everytime I read something Sandy sais, RRocket jumps all over him? I am sure just about every single one of us has had a vehicle that required more than 1 repair issue during its life. I would not be so quick to jump down Sandy's throat because he had a particualr vehicle that seemed to stay together quite well. From what I have read, Sandy maintains his vehicles in an almost religious manner. The most common probalems with ANY vehicle on the road today, is lack of maintenance. Perhaps we should learn from Sandy, not condemn his habbits.

BlackLSC,

ALthough I don't feel I need to clue you in, Sandy and I have a friendly relationship OFF of this board as well as on. I frequently wind him up. Hope this is ok with you...

RE: Very interesting read.

SsssPpppRUNGGGG BOING!

Ron gets his jollies over breaking my basketballs :)

RE: Very interesting read.

That actually crossed my mind as soon as I hit "post message"... lesson learned... mind my own business. Thanks for going easy on me. Glad to hear that "it's all in fun". Of course, it would have been easier if Sandy told me that a while back when I asked him why you are always poking at him with a dull stick.
...suddenly I want to go back and read the other posts you wrote, tearing into sandy with a vocal chainsaw... they'll probably be funny now...

"...get off your high horse..." remember that one?
