Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

My mother has a debilitating health problem that has been with her for most of two years. After a week in the hospital the doctors finally figured it out and gave her a prescription that makes her feel human again and able to function. We went to fill that prescription last night only to find out that the generic version of it costs $995.00 a month. She has no insurance and lives on Social Security. I can't afford that either.

She is going to find out if there is something else that is affordable that does the same thing, but I thought I'd pose the question to you guys; Has anyone bought prescriptions online, and if so what is a reputable source?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

I haven't bought prescriptions online. Does medicare/medicaid cover prescriptions?

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

For long term prescriptions (of which I have several) I use www.medcohealth.com which ships three months worth at a time but I don't know if they are only for insurance or not.

I hope your Mom feels better!

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

Ouch! A grand a month! I guess that really brings the whole medicare prescription drug benefit question right into your home.

I hope you can find someplace that to get your drugs cheaper. Maybe one of our canadian members can see if that medicine can be had cheaper in Canada?

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

Medicare's script coverage doesn't start for another year or so. It is most likely just an election year scam anyway and won't help those who really need it.

I saw the same drug advertised online for a third the price, but want to avoid scams. I'm hoping to hear from someone who actually buys drugs online, and hopefully from Canada. I like the idea of screwing the drug companies out of my American dollars, and have no qualms about buying from Canada. I'd drive up there to buy this stuff now if it wasn't winter! I want to vacation there someday anyway.

Which drug is this? Some pharmaceutical companies offer assistance programs for patints who cannot afford prescription drugs.

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

The drug is Declomycin, (the generic is Demeclocycline.) It is an antibiotic in the tetracycline class and is also used to treat a hormonal/chemical imbalance that is causing hyponatremia.

After taking this drug for two days she is noticably improved, physically and mentally. She is feeling so much better that it practically broke her heart to find out that we can't afford the prescription.
She has had Polymyalgia Rhumatica for over two years and thought that was responsible for how bad she was feeling. Turns out it is something treatable, and she may actually be over the polymyalgia, but now may not be able to pay for the cure.

She is calling her doctor to find out if there is a cheaper substitute. She was put in the hospital last week because her heart was malfunctioning, which turned out to be due to the low sodium and magnesium levels.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

There's a clinical trial in OK for hyponatremia: http://www.centerwatch.com/patient/studies/stu29831.html

But I can't tell from your description if that was just a symptom of some other underlying condition.

As far as the declomycin, it looks like Wyeth divested it to ESP Pharma, although it's not listed on their site yet. You may want to try contacting them to see if there is anything they can do.

Good luck.

I live right next door to canadia. If you can find it cheaper there, and there is a way i can physically (and legally) get it and ship it to you, i'd be happy to help out. Let me know.

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

Drugstore.com has it for $417 for 42 tabs. Still INSANE - but less than $1000.

There's GOT to be a program for her however - poor thing! And yes, there have been lots of people using Canada - including mail drops from there.

It might help.

RE: Need online pharmacy advice/recommendations

I live in Canada...let me know what I can do to help. If there's a way to purchase it here, and Fedex it overnite to you..I'm ready to help....~R

Apparently, this is the #1 Canadian online pharmacy, and has been reviewed favourably by USA today. I haven't used it however.... http://www.affordablerx.com/

UPDATE

UPDATE

Ok...I made a few calls. I called AffordableRX.com directly to ask a few Q's. This is what I was told.

For Declomycin 150MG in a quantity of 100, they told me $97.58 USD. You can order 90 days worth at a time. Shipping is a flat rate of $5.95. The medicine arrives in the original manufacturers sealed containers. Prices are in USD. You can order online, or call to order at 1-800-351-3035. They only accept credit cards, as cheques take too long to clear. You will have to fax your RX to them, however.

This is basically a "finder" company that talks to pharmacies to get the best price. Our pharmacies laws are VERY strict here, and any rule breaking, or error in prescription and they can loose their license in an instant. One of our best friends is a pharmacist, and she has said the same things in the past about these online pharmacies. You are actually buying it from a REAL pharmacy. This pharmacy must be run by a REAL pharmacist, and anyone who works and does the processing must be a pharmacist, or a pharmacist assistant. Not just anyone can handle drugs here. It's very strict. I hope this helps! Let us know how it turns out, please!

I've been getting my asthma inhalers from Canada for about a year now. They're about $84 dollars here and $54 from Canada including shipping.
