See how she sits down in the seat, then half stands up, then sits down again, all the time rubbing her sweater against her probably-cloth seat? Then she doesn't even ground herself before she touches the pump. Her own fault.

Should never pull the pump handle out like that as well, she got lucky it did not flair up, looks like it clicked off.

I answer the phone, get back in my car, leave the engine running, all the crap they say you're not supposed to do while fueling. But i always make sure i ground myself to the pump before touching the nozzle. Had she done that, she'd have been fine.

Dave - can we see a side-shot of your car? Or maybe just tell me what kind of wheels those are - they don't look like one's I've seen on a Mark.

I also let it run, use the phone, get back in, etc. I find once you're clear of the vehicle that touching the door frame to close it will usually get rid of any zaps. Interesting though - ever since I got my official IBM-issue Doc Marten anti-static sole boots, haven't gotten a static shock since.

I heard that you are more likely to "static out" at a gas pump if you are younger rather than older.

Reason?

Older folk have a tendancy to grab the door jamb to get out of the car (old bones you know) and young punks just stand up (thus not grounding themselves).

And unfortunately human nature tells you to take the nozzle out of the car - like somehow it will stop the burning fuel. The babe above is REAL lucky she didn't panic and squish the delivery handle and douse the entire area. And what was the tapping for?

Those are wheels off of my friends '89 Cougar XR7. I borrowed them for a trip over thanksgiving (my tires were unsafe) and just got mine back about 2 weeks ago.
