Big Brother #3

RE: Big Brother #3

Ummm, Pete - Newport News? :+

It's not always that simple Pete. Not everyone's a rich white boy with lots of fancy cars. Not to bust on you, but hey... didn't I almost have to get my debt collector in action? ;)

I still have occasional probs with debt collectors - yeah 10 years after my divorce they still come after me for my ex's debts. And this after I've given them copies of my divorce decree and my ex's last known address and phone number. And don't even talk to me about the 1st 6 months after the divorce or when my ex skipped out on child support.... Yeah, ultimately everyone was paid off, but do you have any idea how nasty those collectors are? Or how they can put your job or reputation in jeopardy by calling at work.

I don't think anyone should be making money off my name and address. I don't like places that sell or give my personal information to others, though I know it happens.

RE: Big Brother #3

Trix read this last sentence of my post-

"And the things that i do, do wrong, i take full responsiblity for.
"

AKA newport news.

Trixie here's the thing. I paid dearly for my current wealth, More then you or anybody else here will ever know. i also got my wealth at a very young age. It took awhile to grow up. But im getting there. So the 10 dollars i owed you wasnt exactly my #1 priority. But you got it in good faith when we meet last year. But im getting there. And for you to summrize me as a little rich white guy with fancy cars is Inflamatory at best. Nor do i like being reffered as that because we both know its 3 worlds away from that. Now that we are past that comment, lets go to the next. Newport news. Yup i broke the law, i went to court, i served community service and paid 1000 dollars in fines. I couldnt tell you how many people told me it wasnt worth the risk of going to jail for upto a year to show up at that court. And that i should just let them try and find me. Here's the diffrence I didnt "not" show up, i didnt run from the law, nor did i do anything to make the situation worse You know what kept me out of jail? My spotless driveing record. My spotless criminal record.

So like i was saying, If your not out there stealing cars, forgeing checks, stealing peoples identy's, skipping out on debts, commiting major crime, or have 52 warrents out for your arrest in Newport news.

Stuff like this wont affect the average do good citizen.

But. Its wrong constitutionally, and its the goverment overstepping its power.

RE: Big Brother #3

Pete - 1st of all - my apologies if my comments made you look like a spoiled brat. You aren't. I know that. You're a good kid. I know that. I hope others do too. I know the money you have is compensating you for something that really sucks and the rest of us are lucky that we don't have to deal with every day. You also are a great person because what you said about taking responsibility for those things you do wrong is true.

But I'll be honest, your comments were inflammatory to me. That hurt. Things happen to lots of people, and life isn't that easy (not that it's easy for you - I don't mean that). Some of us are not financially set. Some lose their jobs unexpectedly. Some are unfairly sought out by the police. etc.

Life isn't as black and white as you put it out there. I've seen bad things happen to good people, things beyond their control. Besides, wouldn't it be terrible if Newport News followed you around for the rest of your life, even though you've paid the price and taken responsibility for it?

But again, I am sorry if I hurt you, that wasn't my intent, and I want everyone to know that you aren't a spoiled brat and I am sorry if my comments made it appear that you are.

Is it right? No. [/div]

That's all that matters, Pete. They chip away at your rights one by one, and by the time they're actually intruding on your average law-abiding citizens lifestyle, it's too late to do anything about it.

First it's right to privacy, then it's right to be secure in persons and property, then it's right to bear arms, then it's right to free speech, then it's right to fair trial...

RE: Big Brother #3

Im sorry trix for not understanding everyones situation, yes its true in life that Stuff happens beyond that persons control. And it stinks. But theres alot of dishonest people out there that do "alot" of harmfull things. And if something helps get criminals out of the general population im all for it. But there is a Line between public safety and public privacy. Not every person in this country is ever going to be happy about which side of the line the goverment is playing on, and lately is been ignoring public privacy. I only hope that it wont get out of control, but it wont get non-existant, because at this moment, we have very few friends beyond our borders and theres ALOT of people with ALOT of money that would love to see us suffer like them, instead of them helping themselves. A big reason of my moving, Is because NYC is a big target, and i rather not be stuck on an island that only has 4-5 or so brigdes and 3 ferrys for the evacuation of 5-10 million people. I rather give up some public privacy for the feeling of safety. Alot of people feel this way, and then there alot of people that dont feel this way. But ill fight to my grave for the right to be secure in persons and property, the right to bear arms, the right to free speech, the right to fair trial.

My take.

RE: Big Brother #3

Someone is writing using my screen name, I did not write the post before this one. I think it might be a glitch or something. And what happened to my post. I hope I am not being silenced because I offended a person, which was not my intent.

I have been studying criminal law for over two years now. Every single one of my professors has retired from real police work, these men know what they are talking about, and EVERY one of them said the same thing about our prisons and that law focuses on areas overwhelmingly occupied by minorities. They know what they are talking about and I know they are right. I think that some people just choose to overlook it. Oh and if you are talking about general rules Detroit 80% black, that is anything but general.

I hope everyone is having fun expressing their beliefs and not getting worked up about it :)

Big Brother #3

Manalpan, Florida is one of the nation’s wealthiest towns and soon it will have cameras and computers running background checks on every car and driver passing through. Cameras will take infrared photos recording a car’s license plate number, then software will automatically run the numbers through law enforcement databases. A 911 dispatcher is alerted if the car is stolen or is the subject of a “be on the lookout” warning. Next to the plate number will be a picture of the driver, taken with another camera. These photos will be deleted after three months. This beach town is located on one of the long, thin barrier islands off the coast of Florida. There’s one highway passing through town which makes this possible. I wonder how long it will be before they add face recognization software so they can identify criminals who drive legitimate cars into town?

RE: Deleted message

David J, please read the ROC. Perhaps you will find your answer to the lack of responses there.

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

RE: Deleted message

I think the problem is that the edit button is right next to the reply button, and when you have admin rights and click on "edit" for someone elses post it actually works. The post was probably deleted because i so rudely edited it. Again, i apologize.
