TurboCharged 350 Cutlass

RE: TurboCharged 350 Cutlass

you guys have been to HomeDepot too many times !!! J/K, Looks good.
How does it run ? what does it run ?

RE: TurboCharged 350 Cutlass

Wow! Judging by the size of that turbine housing, I'm guessing it spins up about as fast as a birthday comes around :)

Cool project though.

I think you guys have the right idea, but you need to work on the implementation. I don't like the looks at all; looks thrown together. It should run fairly well though.

RE: TurboCharged 350 Cutlass

Brad, a quick lesson in turbos.
The inducer wheel may only be 73mm.There are other equally important pieces. The compressor housing and the exhaust housing are JUST as important to how a turbo builds boost and the amount of air the "turbo" can move.
If a given Cubic Inch engine can exhaust enough air to spin a given wheel it can either be killed, or be contributed to by the housings.

The first thing I would look at is the A/R of the exhaust housing. It LOOKS too big.I'm guessing its around .96 or larger.Maybe over 1.something.If it is dont expect to build much boost untill 5000 RPM or so.
The compressor housing looks close. Its tough to tell from the pics. The thing is, with a diesel turbo they are designed to work at LOW RPMs. I mean diesels only rev to around 2500 RPM.

One thing you guys will have to change sooner than you will like is the black boots from Home Depot. They cannot handle the heat from the boosted air. They will tear very soon.

I applaud your enthusiasm, and if you guys would like any help feel free to PM me.You have the basics, it just needs some refinement. And maybe a turbo change.I could have gotten you a properly designed AND sized turbo for about a hundred more then he paid.

RE: TurboCharged 350 Cutlass

I have a few more questions. What did you guys do to the carb and do you have a 1 to 1 fuel pressure regulator?Cause without one the boost will force the fuel back into the fuel line and not into the carb.

What is the piece thats duct taped?

RE: TurboCharged 350 Cutlass

like I said we just slaped the small stuff together, cause he want to test it on the street, and wensdays are the best days, but the duct tape, I assure you is only there to help protect the coolant line from the heat. We have a T4 turbo that we might be putting on
