Las Vegas in September

I've been joking with the wife that this summer will turn out to be a trip a month. First Carlisle in June, then Cincinatti in July. Next up is Maryland for August. Well, wouldn't you know, one of the company owners suggested we attend a big convention in Las Vegas come the last week in September!

I'm sure I'll be given plenty of booth duty, but it'll be great to see some 'scenery' as well. Any suggestions? ::roll:: :7

I can't help you with Vegas... but if you enjoy WORLDWIDE barbeque and want a HELLUVA good time, you should go to Reno, NV for the Best of the West Rib Cookoff! This year, it's being held from 9/2 - 9/6.

This will be my second time down there in two years - it's my new annual Labor Day vacation! :)

RE: Las Vegas in September

I am headed to Vegas on 7-23. We are going to rent a car, and go visit Wendys dad in Colorado for a week, and a week of sight seeing. Wendy has planned everything except for one thing... All the dam questions when we go to Hoover Dam - that is my job :) .

We are going to the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon, as our main stops, with other stuff in between like going to a dude ranch for dinner. Should be nice and toasty there. That should only be a few hours (3-4) travel for some breath taking views.

I have been on the road like you JP. Two weeks ago in Detroit, last weekend in Raleigh, this weekend Atlanta, next weekend Detroit, Vegas, Arizona, Utah, and on to Colorado... Ah vacations, they are so relaxing... Let me know if you have something in mind. I am sure Wendy has researched it.

RE: Las Vegas in September

Yeah, the damn dam was pretty cool. I didn't go on the tour, though.

I love to go through Red Rock Canyon (I think that's the name of it).

I bet Chris knows some fun places to visit. ;)

You travel more than I! But it has been a slow summer so far for me, but the fall/winter looks like a killer.

Nevada's one of the few remaining states I've not visited, and I WILL see Hoover Dam, even though this is a 'business' trip. The wife just wants to go to casinos.

RE: Las Vegas in September

You have to see the grand canyon. Even take a day or two to camp inside there. Best times ever !!!!

Vegas ? Chris, where are you ?

RE: Las Vegas in September

Chris and Torrey live in Vegas. If they are in town they might meet up with you. They were always good to me when I was in Vegas

RE: Las Vegas in September

Vegas is great. I went last Oct. and again in Feb. I loved it.

You have to see the Dam it was interesting. Take the Tour I learned alot from it. As for the Casinos they all are pretty good. You have to visit old Vegas if you can. At night they have a canopy top that closes and they do a light show on it. Every hour or so. The Harley Cafe was great to eat at. We ate there alot and their food is great if you like BBQ type food. Just walk the strip and take in all you can. If you love rides they have 3 different ones on the Stratosphere, A coaster goes around the outside just above the obeservation deck, a free fall ride is at the top of the building, and a see-saw type ride is up there also. All great.

Just ignore the guys all along the trip trying to hand you papers on the girls that are there. Esp. if the wife is with you ;)

HAHAHA. My wife and I went to Vegas about 2 years ago. We were walking the strip at about 11 pm and seen the "paper pushers" My father-in-law says don't take anything they try to had you, so what does my wife do? She takes one pamplet from a guy and the rest of them flocked to her giving her all there pamplets. By the time they were done she had about 50 diffrent pamplets. I never laughed seen my wife so red in all my life. But wait it gets better. A few older (read 40ish) guys seen the flock and looked back to see her "collecting" all the ads. Then they look at me and give me a big thumbs up. I never laughed so hard in my life about that. Still do to this day.
Vegas is a fun town, we may go back in a few years.

RE: Las Vegas in September

On my visit to LV we took a ride up to Mt. Charleston, which is NW of the city, and had lunch at the resturant at the top. I can tell you it was a real treat to get up there in the cool and fragrance of the cedar trees. Pulled the car over and took a nice nap as well. The ride down can get exciting if you don't take the car out of overdrive. We did the dam tour as well the following day, and did the hard hat tour which put you down into the base of the damn and thru the tunnels in the dam. It was 117 degrees at the base that day. It was character building, but I wanted to see the generators and penstocks as my grandfather turned (machined) some of the shafts as a machinist. In all we spent 10 days in LV and had a great time. I also enjoyed some of the off strip resorts as well. we found that having a car was a big plus as it could cost you as much to take a cab from the strip to downtown as it cost to rent the car. All the casinos also make it easy for you to park your car and get into their facilities. One day we will go again.:7 :7 :7
