Marauder?

I've been trying to interest the wife in trading in her 2000 Sable LS Premium before the mileage got too high. Took it in for annual inspection today and it will need tires(typical FWD wear), will probably need an alignment and I'm guessing at least brakes as well. So, now I at least got her looking.

Long story short, cruisin' the local lots, she liked the looks of a Gran Marquis and Town Car. I, of course, started pushing for a Marauder if she's looking at a Gran Marquis. }( Online, the market price seems to be high teens to low 20's in price, depending on mileage. Maybe more than what I'd like to spend, but for a Marauder, I'm flexible. ;)

Anyone have comments or experiences to relate?

RE: Marauder?

Yep..and they are dog slow stock. Expect to get waxed by Honda Accords if you buy it.(according to the magazine times) This is definitely a car that has to be modded to live up to it's image...

FYI: A Fully loaded 2004 Grand Marquis w/10K shouldnt exceed $15K.

I looked at two 2004 Grand Marquis w/ unknown mileage that were $19K - $21K. A 2004 w/ 10,000 miles at $15K would be tempting.

RE: Marauder?

Screw the Towncars...garbage garbage garbage... I cannot stress that enough. JP, we have 8 of them, 5 of which are 2004's. each has had its own set of MAJOR headaches. One of them, a cartier L edition($50k car) now has 60k on it, is driven by only one driver, and has had so many electrical problems, it has spent a total of 240+ days in the shop. yes...a 2004, spending more than half of the year in the shop/dealer.

Go grand marquis. You get towncar luxury at crown vic price.

I drove a grand marquis for 4 years. I drag raced it, commuted in it, long road trips, filled it with people, modded it, you name it. The only thing that ever let me down was the dreaded old plastic intake manifold cross-over. Just about every '96 Ford with the 4.6-2v motor had this recalled, except the grand marquis. even then, it wasnt that expensive.

So, I drove it from 22k miles up to 147k miles, incident free, only gas, tires, oil, fluids, and 1 brake job...that was it!

You know where my vote is. I say pass on the marauder...wait until they drop like the Mark VIII prices did. Then, trade her soon to be marquis in on a used marauder in 2007!

RE: Marauder?

I agree. I would think if you were to buy a marauder now, you'd only be upset in a few years when they really lose value. The L-M dealer near me had a used silver one not too long ago and wanted less than $20K for starters(it wasn't high mileage either). Since I bought the Mark there a little under a year ago, the used car guy remembered me(actually my car, but oh well) and let me go for a drive. It was nice, but my 94 Mark (when it was stock) and my roommate's 94 9C1/LT1 Craprice would eat it alive. I don't think even the rarity of the car will be able to save it (something like less than 900 made each year).

I visit auctions a lot down here in Florida, and I've seen so many of them at those prices. If you would like, I can copy and paste prices for Manheim auctions. However, I'm talking about FULLY LOADED ones too. I know because I searched for a few months to export and make some money off them on the side. I can look up auctions in your area as well.

RE: Marauder?

Phew! Dodged that bullet. Collectively, the wife and I are dangerous 'shoppers'. Once I awoke the day after, I came to my senses and we decided to keep the Sable one more year.

Thanks for the opine. For no more than I looked, I think the Gran Marquis is the better deal of the choices we looked at, especially as a daily driver for her. The Town Cars can't seem to shed quality problems and are pricey while the Marauders haven't depreciated enough yet and don't quite live up to their notoriety.

I will still be watching for an opportunity on a nice Marauder for a good price. }(

RE: Marauder?

Hey Driller,
I am up at 4AM, just reading posts and looking at old stuff - and saw this one from you about the Marauder. So here's my two cents' worth. I was making a daily errand run to the city of Atlanta, and as I am on the feeder road to the Interstate, I notice a large, black machine moving at a good pace about one traffic light behind. Seemed like he was trying to "catch up" - so I cruised to let him. When we were side by side, I said to myself, that's a nice looking Grand Marquis. I turned left, he turned right, have a nice day! Next day, about the same time and place, I see him again. Made it my business to find out a little about the car, even mentioned it to my other half, as I wound up seeing this driver about five times in the next week or so. I even wound down my window as he was next to me to say "nice car" as I do to anyone whose ride I think is cool, or hot!! I got a smug pull off that left me with eyebrows raised. Guy seems to want to weave and speed up every time he sees me, or so it seemed in my mind. I usually laugh at that type of thing because I generally think racing is for the track, and I don't want to orphan my son. About a month goes by, and I see him again. I'm saying to myself, right now NOT spilling this Coke that is having the darndest time in my cupholder is my biggest concern this morning, not Flex Gordon over here. So he starts his bob-and weave, but this time I just stayed side by side. I'm laughing, he is looking like Darth Vader. I always wondered what Vader's facial expression of anger would be under the mask, so I smoked him for about two lights, then as I was about to veer away, a guy in a Town Car pulls up to the next light and gives me the same routine. Needless to say all is still well in Gotham, and the Penguin and Joker are safely in rear view prison. I very rarely punch it especially when I'm not alone on an open stretch, but I must admit there was a guilty pleasure in breaking my own rule. And twice in one stretch used up my quota for the quarter, maybe the season. Must admit, I treated the car to an extra oil change and detail to show my appreciation. I still think the Marauder is a nice car, no Mark VIII, but great for its' size and what it can do. Thanks again for your advice on the other threads it has always helped me immensely.
