What a deal!

For all you classic American car nuts, check this out.

went with my buddy Tommy this morning to trailer home his latest "deal".
he found it last week, sitting in a field, under a tarp, and for sale...CHEAP.

1964 Chevy Impala SS.
it is a real SS, floor shift, with console(A/T).
58k miles on it.

The seller had it in the field for 6 months, under a tarp, sleeping next to a 1965 suicide-Lincoln Continental(alos for sale, but with weeds growing out from under the hood, we glanced away)

anyway, the story behind the Chevy SS is, the seller bought the car 5 years ago, put a new 350-4bbl in it, and a fresh TH-400 inplace of the "glide".

then, after driving it for 3 years, he decided to park it, and strip it down to "freshen" the car. Not a restoration, but a clean up job.

The condition we got it in was, every single nut and bolt from the exterior trim, and the interior was removed, it had all the body work done, and sat in fresh, sanded primer, ready for prep and paint.

of course, primer being porous, it needs to be stripped back down, and redone.

The driveline is complete, and in the car. The radiator is out, as well as everything else from the interior. Most of the trim is either new, or perfect original. The trunk is stripped, the interior is stripped. Nothing but a windshield, rear window, rear quarter windows, and drivetrain are in/on the car. Even the exhaust is done, with headers and all. In fact, the ignition has been updated to HEI and all.

$1500 took this car....can you believe that?

so, just like you see on TV, we are going to finish the body work(re-prime), and send it out for paint. How does a coat of Black Onyx sound? matching black or white upholstery and carpet, and a nice set of rallye wheels with some meat.

We checked some online values today. a complete original SS can fetch anywhere from $15k to $30k, depending on originality and condition. Unbelievable.

Although they are most popular with the Hispanic communities, these cars are still one of the most sought after American cars of the 60's.

That does sound like a sweet deal but with a 350 and new tranny it won't be very original. I have a 1970 Mach 1 that looks original but has been updated with 5-speed and rack and pinion steering. The purists might not like it but I love it. Congrats...:)

RE: What a deal!

The good news is, the 327 and glide are also part of the deal.

But, the plan is to make this a nice driver, with more uumph than GM threw at it back in the day9and more gears too)

But, like your Mach...there's what a car 'was", and what it "should be".

this car isnt going to be restored to original status...but the last one I saw for sale had a 350/TH-400 and it was going for $19.5k

custom, clean, not hacked, and not cholo'd, just a nice custom car.
