Service engine light on.

I have a 2000 town car with a 4.6L v8 engine, the service engine light has been on for several months. The car runs fine, I feel I have a sensor problem. Can anyone tell me how to find & change the sensor.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

RE: Service engine light on.

I don't think you realize what you're asking.

When a "Check Engine" light comes on this is because the PCM has detected a malfuction and has entered FMEM (Failure Management Effects Mode). It has used its internal programming to compensate for the error and has turned on the light to let you know it has done this, and has retained one or more fault codes to help diagnose the error. A vehicle like yours with an OBDII multiplex system can generate more than 120 possible codes pertaining to over 60 different sensors or actuators, including everything in the transmission.

In short, get the codes read!

I'd agree that you need to get the codes read. I'll bet it's a bad oxygen sensor.
