RE: Gas prices set record on penny-a-day climb

While it's at a record high in real dollars, it is not at a record when you adjust for inflation. And we're still paying less than the rest of the world.

while this is true, it still doesnt change the fact that the rapid increase is based on greed. period. I know we pay less than anywhere else in the world, but I am referring to california, which costs consumers on average 60 cents MORE per gallon than anywhere else in the country. This defies explanation.
Furthermore, although we do pay less than anywhere else in the world, it doesnt explain the rapid increase in price. 7 weeks ago, gas in my area was at $1.97/gallon. Now it is above $2.85/gallon. In 7 weeks. explain that.
inflation does influence pricing, but not at a rate of 50% increase in 50 days.
The station I drive by every morning was at $1.97/gallon for premium on feb 25. Today it was at $3.07/gallon. There is a "cheap-o" station across the street from that station. They are currently at $2.69/gallon, yet I saw folks gassing up at the higher-priced station. This is the crap that needs to stop. The station with the rip-off rates needs to suffer for a few days with very little business. As long as idiots keep going there, they wont drop the prices. problem is, most of them put it on their credit card...this add's interest charges, making the gas cost even more.
it is going to be up to the people. We can control the pricing. But as long as folks continue to pay the high-prices, and feed the rich man(pardon the epxression), things wont change.
if I am selling lemonaide on the street for $5.00 glass, and Joe jr. is selling lemonaide for $4.00 glass across the street, why would you buy any from me? If I cant sell any lemonaide, I have no choice but to drop my prices. But as long as people keep buying from me, I wont have to. I know there are factors involved, like quality of gasoline, lines, traffic, payment methods, so unless it's the convenience factor, it is going to keep getting worse.
lazy people who dont have time to wait at the pump, or dont want to stand in line to get gas...they are partially to blame too. They arent helping this situation. They pull into a near-empty station, comment to themselves about the rediculously high prices, then proceed to pump their car up. DUH! the place is empty for a reason... they charge too much! Quit paying them!!!
Ok...I need to lay down...I have a gas-ache.
