I know there was a thread in here somewhere about that other site but I can't locate it... so...

I posted a question on that other mark site. I guess it wasn't appreciated because it was deleted. So I posted a question asking if the moderators could inform the users when and why posts are deleted so we can correct the problem and it was also deleted and my account there was deactivated. Must be nice to not need people to participate. Deleted from bookmarks, never go back. This site doesn't seem to do that kind of crap.

RE: markviii org site .. :(

The really crappy bit is that someone near me offered to come help out with my Mark repairs but I don't know who it is now because I can't log in there to get into my inbox. :(

RE: markviii org site .. :(

well chad sometimes people are just too wrapped up in things to realize that they may be hurting themselves in the long run. if you have a problem post it here and i am sure someone will have more than enough of the right answers for you. and i am sure you will find someone here near you or at the very least someone that will walk you through the steps you need to take to handle your problem.
thank you for staying with us.

RE: markviii org site .. :(

Chad, most likely your thread was moved. The ROC on that site is prety clear(you read them when you signed up). One clear violation is the posting of ANY ebay auction links.

I've been over at that site as long as I have been here, and have never had a problem.

Ask me, and I'll probably know where to look, as i spend most of my time at that site(and will probably remember your thread, and who the member was).

It might have even been me!(just kidding-I'm in Calif). But if you ask around, you'll find that I spend most of my time assisting in technical matters pertaining to the Mark VIII.

I just dont want you to condemn the whole site, and its members due to a probable misunderstanding. You will find that although both sites can provide you with ample information regarding your car, that site tends to offer much more technical interaction between members than most other sites.

Good luck. Let me know if I can help you.

EDIT: it appears that you are still an active member over there. Perhaps you should email the admins.

see here:

and according to the log-in page, you experienced a LOG IN ERROR at 4:15am on April 13th. Perhaps you forgot your password, or have a cookie problem.

That makes me laugh, take a close look at their "technical" info pages and you will see it was stolen from the LOD plain and simple, just like the whole site. Alexander and others wrote all that info and the LOD prolaimed copyrights to it all. Suddenl;y it was all there and the ownership info changed.

"... that site tends to offer much more technical interaction between members than most other sites...."

Did you even read what I wrote? "interaction between members" mean anything?

I was referring to the discussion board, not the HOME PAGE. Furthermore, all of the "tech articles" over there still have the LOD name.

I was referring to the "interaction". Man, talk about a DARK CLOUD.

Geesh Leo...let it go man. You got to get over this whole "they stole it".

I'm talking about TODAY...RIGHT NOW... Not the old "homepage" info...man...you really need to get out more. Dont you have a car show to get ready for?

EDIT: oh, and...I wasnt even writing to you to you Leo. I was responding to Chad, which, BTW, I found his answer.

Chad, you need to email the admins...there was a problem with your password/log-in error. They sent you an email, but you didnt respond...

RE: markviii org site .. :(

Send it to dave...he was asking for them months ago...I dont think he has had any time to print them, but I too have sent him a couple.

What I do is use them on a car domain web page, then cend the link to anyone who needs them.

I have 4 published tech articles on various sites. Anything I can do to help fellow owners. Afterall, that is my whole point...helping anyone I can. ask around, you'll see. "Interaction" is the key. Get out there, and try to help as many as you can.

RE: markviii org site .. :(

btw, it lists me as an active member, when I’m not. They banned me sometime ago, I actually cant remember why.

O well, we have moved on, and it doesn’t bother us anymore. Its says a lot that we moved into another website that still stands very well today and growing.

I'm sure Leo doesn’t say up nights thinking about it, but I bet that he, like most of us are just amazed at the type of courage someone might have to steal an internet car forum, then claim its intellectual property as well.

Please, lets not start another argument about this, what’s done is done, no need to waste any more time on it.

RE: markviii org site .. :(

I looked back at the markviii.org site. My name has been removed from every technical article I wrote, which is most of the articles on that site. Surely, that is not right.

some people just cant admit to being trumped. i know one guy inparticular that cant and wont admit he was wrong and that he lost the war. all he can say now is "im not in a competition with you "
stealing tech articles is wrong yes how ever i loo at it this way the other sites havent got anyone with enough cognetive brain power to write there own. so we should be happy that 1) they copied us and 2) that they are not hanging around us to drain our brains lol

That's exactly right, it galls me that he thinks he got away with it and others are so quick to defend him... the LVC site is another, they stole the LOD name which was just as bad... someday soon however...

ps: As always I slept great last night :D

RE: markviii org site .. :(

Yah, it lists me as an active member but when I try to log in it says I'm deactivated. Right after I posted my message about the mods needing to notify users when changes or deletions are made so users are aware as to the reasons, my account was deactivated. -- Sorry, I don't read the disclaimers on all the sites I sign up on any longer. They're mostly the same to me anyway. I suppose some day I'll sign up on one that says I will give them my first born child but until then, I doubt I'll read them.

Anyway, I've never had cookie problems before and always logged in without issue. So the 4:15am password error is most likely because I was trying to log into a deactivated account or I tried another password thinking the error was mine but when I got the password correct it plainly stated that I was trying to log into a deactivated account.

No big deal, didn't mean to start a whole big mess here just wanted to vent my frustration at sites that appear to be run in a less than ideal manner. Sites that constantly worry about who's posting what, where eventually get burnt out and go away. Some control is necessary but a stranglehold isn't.

RE: markviii org site .. :(

For those of us (me ::roll:: ) who are out of the loop when it comes to the issues of the past, what do you mean by 'LVC stole the LOD name'? While I'm on the subject, I sure would like a 'cliff notes' history lesson as to what happened between 'calvin's' site and this one and how LVC fits in to all of it. Not on here but if someone could e-mail me or PM, I'd really like to understand better. If it's none of my business, just tell me and I'll drop it!

Thanks,

Steve

RE: markviii org site .. :(

well, once again, the simple english i used, was mis-understood by judgement that has been clouded with mis-information.

I will re-write what I originally MEANT with regards to TECHNICAL INFORMATION.

That site(we know which one) has alot more active members who participate daily in discussions about technical information(which was the topic of Chad's post-trying to find the guy that said he would help him).

Here was my original statement:

"You will find that although both sites can provide you with ample information regarding your car, that site tends to offer much more technical interaction between members than most other sites."

Does anyone see the word "article" in that statement? I even generalized it so as not to rub anyone the wrong way. But since we have so many bitter members who hang onto the past, they only see what i would call "an excuse" to mud-sling...AGAIN.

I was not trying to stack one web site against the other. I was simply stating the obvious that since I visit BOTH sites daily, it is CLEARLY obvious which site has more activity in the TECHNICAL DISCUSSIONS.

Just how Leo(or anyone else) thought I was referring to 'technical articles' is beyond me. Clouded with anger, and misinformation can lead to "reading things that arent there".

I will refrain from getting into a defense/opposition with ANYONE about the past. I was not there. I am here. That was then. This is now. I spend HOURS and HOURS every single day of the week reading as many posts as I can, and providing as much TECHNICAL INTERACTION AND ASSISTANCE on that website. If anyone thinks for ANY reason that I was referring to TECH ARTICLES, then you need to get re-schooled in READING. No where did I mention TECHNICAL ARTICLES in my response.

it pains me to no end how the same olf sob story continues to come up. Say what you want, think what you want, and do what you want. But we ALL know that this site has rebounded from the "dark days"...now only if its "supporting members" would realize that the clubs time, energy, FUNDING, and discussions shouldnt be wasted on DOMAIN NAMES, and LEGAL ISSUES.

Put the vehicle you call a web forum in GEAR, and drive on. I am seriously sick and tired of every word written being ripped to shreds to find ANY excuse to drag up the past.

FURTHERMORE... what pray-tell does JOEY have to do with Chad's post????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Chad...I spoke with the admins...email them if you wish to. I advise you do. if you need technical help with your car, WHO CARES where it comes from, right? You want to get your car fixed, dont you? You, along with anyone else, can feel free to email me, PM me, or respond here with any technical problems. I will ALWAYS try to help. They cant stop me from doing that.

BTW, folks, if you perform a search on the internet for technical help with assembling a bar-b-q you bought used, would you really care as to who wrote the instructions? Who took the time to post the pics, and write out each step-by-step detail on where this screw goes, and where this bracket clips to? NO. You would simply be glad that you found what you needed, fix your BBQ, and go cook a steak.

I am through. Thanks for turning a simple response into another waste of webspace.

Leo...I am glad you slept well last night. I am not surprised. And although you may see me as a "defender", in a way, you are right. I am defending the MASSIVE amount of time I have spent volunteering MY TIME to help other members of ALL sites when they need help. Never once have i asked for anything in return. I read the posts, and I interact.

I am defending the very fact that I have helped as many people as I can, and you know what? They appreciate it. I believe I even tried to help you with your water leak in your car.

Actually, I can't locate their email address to do that and can't contact them via the site because I'm not a member now.

Chad, what is the problem you are trying to work out? I can guarantee you will get all the info you need right here at the LOD. Just post it in the appropriate forum and you'll get lots of info.

RE: markviii org site .. :(

It was actually just a stupid question that I ended up asking here as well then deleting because I realized how ignorant it was. lol I guess those guys thought I was advertising or something and deleted the post. I was asking about the quality of a specific product I located on a website being sold by someone I'm not affiliated with. I think they assumed I was getting paid for it or something. Whatever. Not a problem, I just probably won't go back.

Joey owns www dot lincolnsofdistinction dot com. I'm not linking it because that just increases his ranking.

Cliff notes:
Calvin was an LOD member back in the day, and this club was on a tiny board that i think is still around as the schroedingers cat message board. The club grew, and Calvin kindly registered www.mark viii.org in the clubs name, and set up the site. At some point, a couple years ago, Calvin decided that it should be his and his alone, changed all the rules, stopped the BOD from having any say over the message board, and ended up deactivating many LOD officers' accounts. So this board got started up. Last year, there was a lot of bickering over our election, and some other crap (that's just what it was, BS) and Joey got pissed off and left to form lincoln vs cadillacs. The ensuing falling-out led to much animosity.
