F1 One Set Tyre Rule

If you didn't watch the race this morning, watch it when they replay it! Great race. But I'm really unsure why the FIA has the new tyre rules. So far this year it's been really sad to see drivers not going to the max to preserve their tires, and after today, it's abundantly apparent that this can be very dangerous for the drivers.

They changed the qualifying format, now I'm really hoping they'll change the tyre rule.

As an aside, I really thought Schumi was going to do better than he did this race. :(

i'm glad shumi isn't dominating. it makes it more fun to watch. that sucks for kimi that he spun out on the last lap. but i don't know about the one set of tires rule, it's not like he'd have come in for a change at that point anyway.

RE: F1 One Set Tyre Rule

Yeah, he chose not to come in, but if they were regularly changing tires, they wouldn't degrade to the point of destroying the car. It wasn't just Kimi either, Massa might have ended up in the points.

So many of the races have involved issues because the tires have deteriorated. I'm upset that Schumi hasn't won yet, but I don't think the tyre rule is necessarily a factor in that. I just would rather see the race decided based on ability rather than tire wear.

Besides, I found the pit strategies more interesting when tire changes were involved.

But it really upsets me to see something like this, and realize that if that tether snapped, someone could have died.

RE: F1 One Set Tyre Rule

I think the one set of tires rule is BS. It really handicaps the better drivers because they cannot drive as aggressively. Whoever is the best driver should win the race. This is really the core of the sport.
It is ludacris to have to handicap the drivers ability jsut to make it competative. There were many other ways to "slow" the cars down if needed without hampering the drivers abilities.

I think this year has sucked.

I remember back years ago(late 90's) when F1 races had no pit stops. One set of tires, one tank of gas....

RE: F1 One Set Tyre Rule

I didn't start watching these races til last year, but I got hooked so fast. I know there is skill required in preserving tires, and preserving the engine, but I have to say after seeing the races last year compared to this year, last year was much more entertaining (even if Schumi did win all the time). The last couple of races have proven to be more enjoyable than the first couple, maybe the drivers and tire manufacturers are getting used to the new rules, but I just was so upset to see so many races ruined due to tire wear.
