Hey guys....


I just got my webspace today, and got everything uploaded. Now I want to share some of the pictures in the members rides forum, but can't figure out how to do it.


Anyone wanna help a moron out?

In the body of the message include the link to your pictures:

for example:

http ://mark8.org/users/YOURUSERNAME/TESTPIC.JPG

You might want to create folders and then make sure to include the full name(s) in the directory path.

For your account, the format should just be like this:

http://mark8.org/users/93linc/filename.jpg

where "filename.jpg" is the name of the image file you want to display. I also believe the "filename" is case sensitive.

(Note - I checked the box for this reply to format it as plain text, so you can see the http code. I'll post a follow-up message to set it back to normal.)

Craig - try entering this in your browser:

ftp://BlackIceLSC@ftp.mark8.org/

It should then ask for your username and password. At least that's what works for me in Internet Explorer. Note this uploading format is different from how you post the links in messages for the pics to show - that's entered as in my previous message.

Edit...Now I'm geting nothing but a bunch of little Xs. Anyone care to elaborate? I copy and pasted the addy, and entered all of the file info like instructed, but no dice as proven here.

The filename is case senstive. Check the name and extension ... sometimes programs give capitalized .JPG instead of .jpg.

I am using inter-soft ftp commander pro...seems to work great!

Red X, Craig - it might be in your local cache. Also, I don't believe it would work the way you have it, with the link to the FTP site, because the FTP space isn't anonymous login, though maybe that's why you see it, since you're logged in as yourself.

Right-click on my sig pic and check the Properties - that's what's working for me. I wonder if something is different for newer webspace users?

yea, I see the pic just fine... must be cache' stuff.

If I set mine up the way you have yours posted(properties), it would be "written" as:
http:// mark8.org/users/blackice/srap8.jpg (without the space)

and you'd see the image. But it isnt.

anyway, I'll mess with it another time.

Hmmm - 'curious. I'm guessing it's an address translation problem. I was thinking it might be a permissions problem on the FTP server, but if that was the case, it would give a security error, and not "page not found" when pasting the link into the address bar. Older accounts, like mine, are working fine, but I suspect that the webmaster has something configured wrong for the new folders being currently created. Someone intimately familiar with the FTP portion of the site needs to have a look at settings on the server. If it's not the security settings, it still seems to be server related, since all you guys appear to be doing it the same as me.

Craig - how come your folder is named "blackice" and not your username? Is that the way they set it up for you?

Sounds like that could very well be the issue.

There is a limit on the name length, mine was madstgen, so I guess it's 8 characters.

Yep...Jeremi's right...Alexander mentioned there is a character limit, so Blackice is my username.

John, at first, I did get security errors on the ftp.
Now I get a log-in prompt at times...I dunno.

when it comes to computer stuff. Remember how long it took me to get my webspace set up on other sites?

it's ok...I didnt become a supporting member just for the webspace...if the day comes that I need my 20mb, I'll ask...until then, I'll continue to use what I know.
