Yeah, I am liberal, but I think I'd actually prefer a more centrist Supreme Court than either right or left.
I have a question for those of you in the know - is it normal to get a new Justice who is named Chief Justice, or is a current member of the Supreme Court normally given a "promotion"?

To my understanding the Chief Justice position can be picked either way. The President can pick somebody from outside the current Justices or one of the current Justices can be put up for the position.
Chief Justice Rehnquist was one of only a hand full to have been serving as a Justice before moving up to Chief Justice.

RIP Justice Rehnquist. I also consider myself a liberal but I have no problem with Bush's nomination. He apears to be conservitave but fair and probably will do his job to the best of his ability. I hope so.

Oh, but I am concerned about Roberts. I guess I'd rather have a serving Justice made into Chief Justice than have someone unknown.
