RE: Listen to your favorite city's police scanners live online
Adam, my county here in GA voted yesteerday on a "Special Local Option Sales Tax" and approved it.
One of the items to now implement is a joint city/county 800 MHZ trunked communication system, will have 3 repeater towers spread throughout the county and is supposed to be guaranteed by Motorola to give 95% coverage.
I have a scanner in my shop that I usually switch on while I'm there, as my shop is away from my home and in the "Hood", and it's good to know what's going on around you! Has come in handy on more than one occasion.
I realize that my scanner will be prety much obsolete when this system is installed. We voted down the past 2 SPLOSTs for rejection of a boondoggle that wasn't included this time.
But back then I was assured by the local Radio Shack manager that they now had scanners to work on trunked systems. Just require a more complex setup, and of course, more money.
Are these "tac" channels you mentioned part of a trunked system? An adjacent county, Fayette, apparently has a partially trunked system, as I hear the dispatcher instruct units to respond on "tac 1" or "tac 2", etc.
