The wifey and i are planning this years vacation and we're looking at going to the keys. we have the hotel narrowed down to two,

http://www.whitesandsinn.com
or
http://oceanbeach-club.com/index.html

The white sands only has a few rooms for total privacy, and we would be in the tree-top terrace with a private balcony and hot-tub, but there is no real beach and it is right next to the road.

the ocean beach club has an awesome beach, far from the road, but is a typical hotel with little of the privacy. Bith hotels seem to get rave reviews from people who have been there.

We're most likely going in early May. Anything particular we should or should not do?

What part of the Keys are you going to? Are you driving or flying?

We are flying into west palm beach airport and getting a rental car. the hotels we ar looking at are both on or near marathon, but we'll be checking out the whole area from largo down to key west. www.fla-keys.com hgas great info, but i was wondering if anyone else has been there who could give me there own un-biased opinions.

It really depends on alot of things. Are you bringing your child? What kind of things do you do for fun? Are you a drinker or a fisherman? I have seen in some of your past posts that you are a religious person. What level of homosexuality are you comfortable being around? The best trips I have been on were to key west. I stayed across from the hard rock and was right on the strip, but I love my beer and good music. My girl and I always have a blast there, but the things we do are not appropriate for children. If you are taking a family vacation disney would be a better choice in my opinion.

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

No kid on this trip thank god! We drink when we go clubbing or dinners or what not, i'm looking forward to seeing what kind of night life they have to offer down there. I understand Key West is a haven for gays and lesbians, but i'm cool with that. I just found out last week there was a Hard Rock down there, I've never been to one before.

I haven't been fishing in over 10 years, but would like to, even if it's just pier fishing. Amanda is sure how well she could take a boat (seasick prone) and I know she won't be baiting her own hook, lol. We'll most likely be doing some snorkling, prolly in key largo, i've heard it;s the best for that kind of stuff.

What are the best beaches? I know of Bahia Honda or whatever it's called, any other gems out there? Has anyone been to the two hotels I mentioned and could vouch for either?

Nothing beats Bahia Honda in my opinion. You can snorkle and see lobster and all kinds of tropical fish. Beaches are white, clean and free of seaweed.
A trip to the Dry Tortugas would be nice too. Old fort/prison out there. You leave out of Key West.

Ok, that helps alot. There is a boat called the sebago that leaves out of the port in key west. They sell tickets for it on every corner. I think its about 40 bucks each. They take you out to a reaf to go snorkeling then have a champaign and beer toast at sunset as you sail in. Plan on spending a night drinking at Irish Kevins. In my opinion it is the best bar in Key west. Also plan on seeing a sunset in malory square. Lots of people hang out and have fun. As was mentioned before, make sure to go out to the island. Dont forget to get your picture taken at the southern most point. Next time I go down I am renting mopeds. It looks like alot of fun. I would also suggest a haunted tour. I dont take them seriously, but have alot of fun learning about the history. My personal favorites are the haunted pub tours. As I think of more, I will post. The gay stuff is really not as bad as people make it out to be. Its usually the ones that are very sensitive to it that get bothered. You wont see them kissing or having sex on the hoods of cars. I dont dance, but Lisa loves to so we usually spend half of our night hanging out with gay couples so she has somebody to dance with.
